yeah, 10 years will do that. Great looking truck, tell us some more about it. Is it a Chevy or GMC? Notice the chevy grill but GMC hood, although I like the combo personally. Paint looks great for sitting so long.

it sat in a barn for last 12 yrs so paint held up pretty good...just got to get brakes and lines done and get motor going. going to get a fuel tank from lmc to go under bed then just fine tune to drive daily

I run mine without the tire mounted because I like the way it looks better without it. Since I took off the spare, I've been able to replace the big dumbo mirrors the PO had on it to see around the spare (this is an older picture).
I noticed most of the pics in this thread have the bigger mirrors. Was this the factory option on steppers with fender mount spares so you could see out of the drivers side mirror?

Mine has just a 4 x 6 mirror on a stock post. I have a 235 65 15 on the carrier, and I can see the tire, but I can also see around it.

I started thinking about it and I remembered that the PO had 15"x10" wheels on it when I bought it, so the spare stuck out far enough that he said he needed the bigger mirrors. This is the best pic I have of it with the spare still mounted, but you can tell it stuck out quite a bit.

I have a factory cast iron fender mount mirror arm also. Has a funny bend in it. I think there is a pic earlier on in the thread that shows it.

I wish I could find one of these carriers. I have the fender already mounted on the truck, just need the carrier and a tire for my spare wheel that I have. Any good spots to nab these from?

I'll keep my eyes peeled for you. I just got rid of one I grabbed at a swap meet for $50 only because I knew what it was and the price was right. I almost hate to say it, but they do pop up on ebay quite frequently. The beds were the same from late 55-66, so a carrier from those years will work. Just be sure you get the appropriate carrier for your bed...ie short or long bed. There are pics of the two different carriers earlier on in this thread. If I come across one, I'll send you a private message.

Yeah saw it too late in the trucks working thread. The big thing on a long bed is what fender you have. You can run a short bed fender on the long bed or a long bed fender, but cannot use the long bed fender on the short bed w/o clearance issues. The short bed carrier places the tire higher than the long bed. I personally think the long bed carriers look better and you can reach over the bed side easier. Let us know which fender you have so that we can keep our eyes open for the appropriate carrier.

I will have to do some research, I am really not sure which fender I have. I think it is the short bed fender, but I can find out for sure tonight when I go home.

I just posted a bunch of measurements for the side mount carrier a few days ago. It's not very complicated. I'll bet if you didn't really HAVE to have OEM you could pay any backyard welder to fab one up in about an hour start to finish. It's just angle iron and rods with a plate on the front. Can you tell from this pic? To me, it looks like the long bed fender. I could be mistaken, but I need to get some better pics tonight. I have been wicked busy the past few days and I haven't even been able to drive it.

Looks like a long bed fender. The short beds had a hole cut in them for the braces to pass through. Although it'd be easy to drill a hole in it if you went with the high mount like the short beds have. The long beds mounted the tire lower

If you look at the last truck in post #30, it shows a long bed w/short bed style mount (high). Which looks equally good in my opinion. Post #38 shows the high/low mount very good.

One other thing I've noticed is the repops have a lower cut out. I have also found a "rare" passenger side mount. I have never seen or found any documentation for a passenger side cut out fender. And the fender does not have the edges where the wheel tub was welded in. This appears to be a custom done fender, not "rare", so just beware that you don't get price gouged on a part that probably doesn't exist from the factory. Research what your buying so that you don't get the short end of the stick. Not saying its not functional or look good, just some "for what its worth" if you want oem/nos parts.
