Fair Price for 292?
Considering putting a 292 in my 1950 Chevy truck and came across this ad.
GM 6 cyl. Engine/ 292/ 2 "1 barrel carburetors"/ OFFENHAUSER INTAKE/ HIGH lift cam/ ACCEL electronic ignition/ 7 main/runs good/all complete/ will guarantee/ 1973-1984 model/$1200 Any thoughts on the price they are asking? Posted via Mobile Device |

If the guarantee is decent (probably 1 year/10,000 mi.) and he'll put it in writing, I'd feel alright about it if it's all he says it is.

If your going to just drop it in and go, that is a good price all day long.
If your looking for something to rebuild to your own specs. I would say look on craigslist for a rebuildable core for around $300-$500 |

I think it's a fair price. I would pay that much for it if I had a home for it.

That's not too bad...but before I would proceed I would want compression numbers on all cylinders.
You can do it....they can do it....whatever, but I would want to know the compression. Those numbers will tell a strong tale of the condition of the motor...and of course, you will want them to be fairly even. All good & good luck, keep us posted. Coley

I think I spent about 3 grand building my current 292 L6, and that was 13 years ago.
Looks like a nice block. I paid a parts store guy $100 for a kick-out core of a '63 292, but it was also a long time ago. If it runs good, it's worth it.
