Re: What is a screw jack suspension?

Just a guess but Stock Cars and dirt track cars have a big screw on top of the springs so they can adjust the height/load on each wheel. I am guessing something like that so they can adjust the right height.

Re: What is a screw jack suspension?

I saw a 56 ford pickup once in San Diego that had (claimed) Nascar suspension where he had s crew type cranking mechanism on all fours to adjust the suspension. AKA Wedge adjustment, simply refers to adjusting the amount of force that bears down on a tire's spring.

Re: What is a screw jack suspension?

This is a kind of screw jack or weight jack. You will see in the picture the cup the spring sets in and an all thread bolt sticking out the top that can be twisted to raise and lower the height of the truck. But more importantly it can also "corner balance" the truck for desired weight distribution.

Re: What is a screw jack suspension?

hey I have a 50' olds. it has fatman spindles also. I haven't gotten it on the rd yet this year.

These cars have factory "truck arms" with rear coils to begin with so a setup like above would make sense. I've heard 67-72 c10 rear coils will lower them 4-5" in the back. Haven't messed with that yet. Plan to do a gasser type build have a hopped up Cadillac 472 for it.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: What is a screw jack suspension?

Thanks for all the information.I enjoy reading about old suspension modifications before the days of drop spindles and air bag kits. But I seen this and was stumped.
