the first one was a big buck mule. he left the big dent. the top bumper bracket is still bolted to the frame, and fate delt him poorly. got hooked and dragged for 1000' or so then mashed by both axles. i left him. the next was in traffic, so i didnt stop. there are tons of them this year.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

it sucks, but it is a beater. one of the reasons i like driving around in old crusty stuff. doesnt hurt as bad when this happens. my tentative plan is to try and find a local desert 2wd truck that is in oe paint and use it as a body donor when i spruce it up. rebuld everything else nicely and have a patina k20. i dont know if i am going to try an keep it slant nosed or not, but i will get with you if i need a grille. thanks!

here is the resurrection thread on the yellow truck old and ugly

ther eis a link to my other truck in my signature line

Congrats! Toby hit one but low so she is still around. Hopefully I can get one in second season of archery.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

well, not much action on the truck but I did hit the Carlisle truck show last week with a local board member, also ran into a few old timers from the board as well. Electricity is almost done in my shop so the urge to tinker is here again, but so is hunting season...

I wonder if I could pull the original skin off the doors I picked up, have them blasted, coat the inside and reweld the skin on... is it worth it? The doors are in nice shape except for interior surface rust and some creeping our from the seams...nothing to lose I guess. I found this pic on the Facebook page. Anyone reskin doors?

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

When Sky did my doors he had to replace the bottom of 2 doors and while he had them open he blasted them and primed them with epoxy primer. it is a lot of work to remove the skins to remove rust. if you have the time go for it.

I'll take a closer look, I think the original skins would be toast after removing them...based on the videos i've seen. I'd hate to have rust creep out from the joint after a nice paint job though. I was just at Carlisle and could have picked up some cheap skins too... but didn't.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

trying to determine if these doors are worth saving or I should just put the on craigslist. I have a nicer pass doors but need a nice driver door. These are loaded with soft-ray glass (which I have more of) so I should be able to get something for them. Thoughts?

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Picked up a rust free drivers door in Carlisle today. Nice having a guy that deals in Arizona parts! He rolled into town yesterday after picking up parts in AZ.

Planning on getting both doors blasted and coat them in primer before I work on them. pics to follow.

That's good you found a rust free door. your driver door looks worst than my doors on the bottom and we still had to cut out part and clean out the rot.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

That gold one could use a lower reskin and a bit of inner metal fix. Would be decent then.

I found an NOS door skin but @ $250 I passed. Opted for the $200 door that needs a little TLC.

That's good deal of the door. I have 2 front doors from my 71 and I can't get $100 for each as they have speaker holes cut in them.

Thanks... so I ended up selling both of my $35 doors for $100 each and bought a rust free, but rough, AZ door for $200. I'm currently installing insulation in the shop that I scored from our new roof at work. 65 sheets of 3" rigid insulation for free, used but in good shape.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Just found this on Ebay, not a bad price either. Pretty much identical to mine except for the wheels and seats. This is my goal, have my truck up and running for 2018 (50th year anniversary). I didn't buy this one, but someone can!

I think it was a 71/72 with a 2WD 68 body on it. Didn't make its reserve at $14,800.

Do you have any closeup pictures of your original cab clearance lights.

Thanks,

Just picked up a nice door from a board member, came from OK with only 1 small area in the lower front inner corner... I swear that this is my last door...

Hey Mike,

Hope all is well. Will be back in your area 3rd week of August.

The "Slim Jims" were delicious and greatly appreciated.

Cool little truck you've got.
