Flywheel inspection cover install

So, of all the things that have caused me trouble getting put back together this one makes me feel the most stupid. This shouldn't be that hard. I have tried sliding this thing from several angles and just can't get it. My truck came from the factory with a 307 and a 3 speed. I swapped in a 350 and kept the 3 speed and bell housing. I have an aftermarket oil pan, but it is standard capacity and looks stock. It seems as though the pan is what's causing the issue but it's hard to tell. I am tempted to get out my grinder and clearance the inspection cover. That or a hammer to get it past the pan. Anyone else ever had this issue?

Thanks.
