Al THANKS! Your truck is awesome like many of the others on here that gave me insperation to do my best with a nice build. I've helped my dad on several of his projects but never did anthing for myself. Luckily I learned some from him and James (our bodyman). Lots of fun so far, challenging learning and trying to implement some of the ideas I get from you guys.

I'm really thankful to be in a postion with the way the economy is to do anything.

Thanks you for the very kind words sir!!!! I find myself taking things back apart and wanting to do more and more... This project keeps growing on me and in the pocket...

Well here are some pics and progress! Finally got the 4/6 drop done today. Man those rear u-bolts.... What a pita they are.

Going tomorrow and pic up the new rotors, pads, brake lines and the correct ring&pinion for the rear. I had gear set there today it just happened to be for a Ford 9 inch... It was boxed wrong at some point....

Looking good! So the original ball joints were in good shape? (notice they are riveted in still not bolted in)

Hey man! Well Marvin our local mechanic of 30 years told me they where good. They looked fine to me and on the tires everything is tight. I'm not experienced in that area at all so I went with his suggestion. I did need new bearings on the drivers side. I ended up just getting them for both sides.

Thanks Mightmouse! I hope it doesn't need repainting by the time I finish pulling it apart a thousand times...

You are making great progress. Awesome truck! This brings back way too many memories that aren't quite far enough in the past yet.

Re: 72 Not sure what to call it yet resto!

I did get a few things done both front and rear brakes and bearings all finished.

The ring gear that came was for the small carrier so once again it will be Monday before we can take a shot at that.

Looking good, sorry to hear about your bad luck with the rear gears

Are you going to use disk brake backing plates (dust shields)? I am about to do my front suspension and have noticed a lot of people are not using the backing plates.

The gears have been a pita... Usually our local guy here is spot-on when it comes to ordering stuff like that. The first time the gears where boxed wrong from the factory and then someone just messed up on the second order. Hope like heck I get the correct stuff Monday.

I would have used the brake shields but one was already missing so... I too, had noticed some don't use them. I mean do they really do much anyway??
I cheated on all the little stuff and soaked it in metal prep and then shot it with the caliper paint I used on the front. I'll keep my old USA springs instead of the new chinese stuff anyday. So far the only metric thing I have are the motor mounts!

Thanks everyone for the comments updates coming soon!! (I hope)

Re: 72 Not sure what to call it yet resto!

Thanks Chris. Maybe one day we can meet up at at car cruise/show with the trucks in Virginia or Maryland.

Have you ever been to the Ocean City Maryland car cruise in May or Oct? There are a lot of awesome cars & trucks that show up. Close to 3,000 cars register for the May cruise and it sells out but there are thousands of non registered. It is worth the trip if you have not been.
