New Guy

Thought I’d introduce myself to the group. Just picked at 1969 a week ago, and thankfully found this forum to deal with the brake light issue that developed on the way home. Looks like it’s time for a new turn signal switch.

Re: New Guy

Welcome. Is the brake light on all the time or only when you use the brakes. Is fluid low in the master cylinder. Do you still have front drum brakes. My light comes on when I need to adjust the brake shoes in the drums, 1hr to make adjustments and all is well.

Re: New Guy

The brake light are not working at all in normal driving conditions. If I put the parking lights or head lights on, the turn light stays on no matter what. I replaced the brake switch, did a continuity check of that. Then checked the white wire from the steering column harness, that was good. When I operate either turn signal no light on the test lamp for the brake switch. But the test light follows the light on the dash for both left and right turn signal. I didn’t jumper the white to the green or yellow, but I’m pretty confident the switch is the issue. But I may be wrong, happens quite often actually, lol. Oh and it’s discs up front, drums in the back.

Re: New Guy

Welcome aboard. Good looking 69.
Be sure and check all your ground wires too. Follow the wire harness out the firewall and down the frame to the rear. There are a couple of connectors and a rusty tail lamp bucket might be the cause. And bed to frame ground.

Welcome to another Huntspatch truck. I'm in NW Madison County off Winchester Rd. I'm not a mechanic but if I can help with something, just PM me.

Re: New Guy

Welcome! Nice truck! It would be great to see more pictures, especially of the inside, wheels, grill, and under the hood. What do you have there on the dash controlled with those 2 switches, and what is in the radio position above the ash tray?

Re: New Guy

The two switches, one is a additional fan switch for the radiator. The PO installed incase of a long sit in the Alabama heat, like waiting to get in or out or a car show. The one closest to the steering wheel is a O/D switch, the PO opted for a manually operated switch instead of the sensor. Its a 700R4 transmission.

Re: New Guy

The radio area has a blanking plate screwed in with 3 gauges, one for battery voltage, one for engine temp and oil pressure. A tach is attached to the bottom of the dash near the right side of the steering column. Thinking about buying a new instrument gauge overlay with the 4 smaller holes at the bottom and moving those gauges all there. at that point I can see how bad the radio cutout has been butchered.
