I usually use the second picture as my plan, then when things go a lot smoother I feel much better.

I look at the roadblocks and bumps as a learning experience and I've amazed myself at what I can do on my own.

I totally agree with real life being most like the second picture, because there is always something that thwarts your plan. Kids, honey-do's, home repairs, or other vehicle breakdowns, the list is endless.
I think that is why you see so many unfinished projects for sale in the local paper and craigslist. some folks just give up after a while. I do get it. I really got a kick out of the comment about the rocks being thrown at you. |

No one has thrown rocks at me but one guy threw bottles....I threw some lead back....I doubt he'll be throwing anything more than a tantrum in limbo.
Everyone I have mentioned the truck to has been supportive. My biggest helper has at times been the strongest opposition....my dad. Although he has physically helped the most he has been the only person to object (at some times strongly) to the restoration work. |

What is your dad saying, not work it? That's typical. You are taking what he has let sit and turning it into something nicer than before. He might have a hard time handling that. Hopefully all that (if it is that) will turn around as he sees it closer to done.
