Help designing a cover over my rear pumpkin

I’ve been racking my brain on how I should design the cover in my bed floor over the rear diff pumpkin that raises up above the bed floor when I let all the air out of my bags. I was just going to raise the bed floor 3” but am strongly reconsidering due to all the extra work. The pumpkin only comes up through the floor about 2”. I was thinking of making a square frame out of angle and then hinging a plate so that it could open and close. Not sure how I’m going to do it yet. My truck is bagged on a mini notch so the plate would lay flat at ride height. By the way I have a wood bed so I really don’t want a hump but rather something that would lay flat at ride height. I may still just raise the floor. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Without cutting a hole or raising the bed floor, the only thinking I've got is installing bump stops so the axle bottoms on those just as the housing tops out. Other than that, like you said, cut it or raise it

Here is some fun. Get a mannequin hand, they sell for $10 or so and are used for jewelry display. Attach it right on top of the pumpkin facing up. Make a square frame out of angle metal to fit around a hole in the floor and stretch spandex on it.

Other body parts or GMC emblem would work, too. If you don't want to mount the part on the pumpkin, you could instead suspend it with springs just below the spandex.

Dude that’s actually a great idea. Because after I posted this I started thinking of shock travel and the pumpkin hitting the plate on rough roads. This would solve all my problems. And I could change spandex colors anytime. Thanx

Re: Help designing a cover over my rear pumpkin

No doubt. I’m still a ways from there but always thinking ahead. Again that’s a great idea and at least I have some sort of direction. Maybe some u bolts and a flat plate mounted to the rear end with the face of a skull mounted on the flat plate. Like I said you gave me direction and I appreciate it.

I was thinking a tool box with the bottom cut out, or metal gas can, or cooler, or......

Something people like to see in these trucks that you could doll up with pinstripe, lettering, airbrush, or.....

Great idea. Old Igloo or Coleman aluminum ice chest with a couple of Dzus fasteners holding it in place.

Re: Help designing a cover over my rear pumpkin

Just leave a hole and mount a clown to the pumpkin so it's head pops up above the bedsides. Project Jack-in-the-box
