Frame for a 46'?

Hello all very new to the site, im a 1971 blazer guy but my dad has a 1946 chevy pickup and the frame is rotted apart. So we are in search of a new one desperately. Heres the story to the truck. In 1946 my great grandfather bought the truck brand new, and its been in the family since the truck has never been sold and has alway been kept around the farm. In the 70's when my dad was a teenager he ran the truck around the farm eventually the clutch went bad and instead of fixing it was parked in the woods. And it wasnt until about a month ago now me nd him drug the old truck out of the woods because he now realizes that the truck should be restored so now we need a frame. any help would be great! thanks

Are you looking for a stock frame or are you planning to upgrade.S10 frames are a great up grade that a lot of people do.They are cheap and easy to do.
Welcome aboard

Re: Frame for a 46'?

the s10 frame from 80's to late 90's are close to be the same, but you will need to look for a reg. cab long bed. It has about a 117" wheel base, your truck is I think around 114" wheel base.
For my cousin's 50 GMC I placed it on a 98 s10 reg short bed and it is about 109" wheel base. He planning to shorten the bed.
The s10 frame is an hour glass shape so triming will need to be done if you want it to sit low for you truck, cause the frame is about 43" wide at the front of the cab.

Also, you will have to measure the width of the front suspension and compair it to your truck cause your truck might be wider, was told there are some billit wheel spaces for that and for the rear you will need to find the 4x4 s10 rear axle cause it is 5" wider than the 2 wheel drive.

I got the info form this site:
http://www.ad-engineering.com/HOMEPAGE.html
under (kit components)

hope this helps

was also told that the dakota frame has a better width for old trucks but not sure if the 6-lug pattern is the same as chevy (early dakota's had 5 lug same as ford 5 1/4.)

Re: Frame for a 46'?

The G-body frames (malibu/regal/cutlass/elcamino) are 2.5 inches wider at the front wheels compared to the S10, and have all of the engie mounts that you could wish for (200cu thru 455 ) I would use the S10 rear rails, mated to the G-body front end. Both front ends use the same parts (basically).
