2003 1500HD Service 4wd

The "service 4wd" message is showing on my 2003 1500hd. I replaced the 4 wheel drive switch in the dash and didnt help. Any ideas? Thanks

Take it too a parts house and have it scanned, is the 4wd still working properly?

Switch does not light up. No 4 wheel drive.

Could be module under dash on D/S also could be shift motor on xfer case or front axle. Could be speed sensor on xfer case could be wiring.
I know this does not help much but that all there to the systems. pretty simple and self contained.

A common issue is either a ground wire or the switch on the transfer case. Can't think of the details now but the dieselplace forum has good info about this issue. Does it work if you restart the truck?
