327 Block 3782870 vs 3858174
Interested in any differences between the two 327 blocks used in 64 to 66' trucks.
3782870 casting number used in 64' and 65'; some early 66??? 3858174 casting number used 66', maybe late 65 trucks. What Differences are their in these blocks? Thinking maybe the crankcase ventilation? |

Re: 327 Block 3782870 vs 3858174
I'm betting the early one is small crank journal and later one is large crank journal.

Re: 327 Block 3782870 vs 3858174
These should both be small journal 327s, 1968 first year for large journal 327s.
Read a while back somewhere, that their were some internal changes to block over time that improved strength and durability. Just can not remember what they were and what areas were strengthened. The different casting numbers my represent these upgrade changes? Available information suggestes these two casting numbers were specificly used in more heavy duty/high performance applications, like trucks and corvettes, SS models. Les |
