Couple of burb things
Im getting rid of my last burb tomorrow (whats left of it that is lol) . I bought it for some parts I needed and I wanted the chassis for my panel. Whats left it going to another board member for a very cool project he has going.
One thing I never noticed before is that on burbs even the 72's have the mirrors mounted to the header panel. One other thing, on the title under series/body type it says 4CRYL. I guess Im brain dead, for the life of me I cant figure out what that stands for. Any help? Mark

Wow, thats an excellent guess. I think you must be correct, except that its a rare 3 door version (heh).
Weren't the Internationals called carry all's?

The early days of Suburban the term "Carry all" was used to describe it.
(I still don't like people calling my burb a carry all, since every time I hear that word I envision an International which I think is on the ugly side). Also "Carry all" was a common term used to describe a 4-wheel wagon, that seated 4 and had some space for luggage. So, your vehicle description code may be coming from an antiquated description of a wagon?

I'm still curious about the licensing for you're crew cab project if you use a Carryall/Burb title, yet have a bed on the chassis. Maybe in WA the cops wouldn't take note of it, but up here I'm pretty sure the cops would have me pulled over in no time and my truck would be sent in for Inspection. Although I am running a truck title for my crew cab so no problems.

The trip back was cold and wet...and long since I hit wonderful Seattle rush hour lol Wasn't too bad coming back though pulling wise. Just had people pulling up beside me on the highway asking if I knew it was raining out
 I'm hoping to come back down there fairly soon and pick up that blazer and some other parts and/or projects lol

I've owned a '57, '60, '62, Suburban Carryalls, and until I got my present '69 all I ever heard an early Suburban called was a Carryall. The term Suburban is a late 60's name; prior to '67 they were always Carryalls.

Mark, the burb you sold me had a windshield mounted mirror, and no holes for a ceiling mounted one. Someone had put a dab of red sillicon RTV up there for some reason or another, nut when I rubbed it off there were no holes.
I've considered mounting the older style up there since I have yet to find glue that works on the glass. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 04-26-2011 at 10:52 PM. |

longhornman the glue for a rear view mirror is rear view mirror adhesive. pick some up at your parts store. it is a two part part primer and adhesive.

My 71 burb has the ceiling mounted mirror and my 72 is glass mounted. My understanding is that in 72 GM went to a glass mounted mirror only for trucks and burbs.

I've used the 2 part adhesive a million times, always had better luck with superglue, but even then, they only seem to hold up for a year... two at the most. I've had this luck since I got my second car (first car I think was mounted to the ceiling, 68 cougar) and every ceiling mounted mirror since. I've spent a small fortune on mirror adhesives and pretty much gave up. I even bought a plastic mirror for the burb, thinking it's lighter and less likely to fall off... it's under the seat now, and has been there for over a year.
