Re: Silverado restoration in Finland

We started installing the soundproofing in the cabin. First, bitumen (black gold) and top it becomes other insulating material (silver).

Pictures 1 and 2;
Fuel tank installation.

Pictures 3
These plastic parts were really in bad shape. They had something horrible black stuff that did not go away. They cracked and lacked lots of pieces (cleaning, cleaning, cleaning and a lot of plastic glue). Those made me almost cracy!!

Pictures 4 and 5;
More cleaned parts

Thank you very much moregrip! Sometimes I get frustrated because the construction of this truck is progressing so slowly. All of the small parts that are cleaned, sandblasted, repaired, painted, or electroplating are really slow. Maybe one day we can install bed, fenders and doors...

Completely understand, but I have to say, doing it this way you're going to end up with a truck better than the day it came off the line!!

Thank you Mike! I think so, that those firewall pieces is only diesel version. Maybe it looks better without those pieces but we want it to be as close to the original as possible. And maybe those will help soundproofing, or not?!?

Here in Finland, cars and trucks over 30 years old can be inspection as museum cars, making user fees, taxes and insurance much cheaper but the car must be original. The museum car/truck can only drive 30 days in a year (But there are long winter and short summer). We still do not know if we use museum inspection or we do a normal inspection, this is reason why we want to original condition+we like it when it looks like new...maybe a little bit lower...

1. Frame before the bed
2. The bed was fitted to the frame.
3,4. Old wheels vs. new Rally wheels 15x10"! Yes, I like it!!!
5. Cabin and bed do not fit (only right side)!!!! Something has to be done. I'm so angry!

Re: Silverado restoration in Finland

Taking a guess; I would assume that the lower right corner of the bed was pushed in at some point along the way or while at the shop??? Have you put the door on since paint to make sure it's not the cab corner; but looks to me to be fine. If it's the bed, you're going to have to take it off and have somebody put on that corner while you carefully hammer/dolly the inside of the bedside in order to get that corner to come out. I did that on the OEM box sides I have now and JaysonB and I just did on the white box in Dad79GMC build thread. That just simply stinks!!!! Sorry for the frustration. Mike

Hello Mike!
I'm not sure is there a fault in the bed or in the cabin, but the corner of the bed needs to be repaired. Yes, we installed the door before I welded the cabinet's outer rocker panel. The inner rocker panel is original(not changed). We took a conscious risk when we could not fit a new bed and cabin on the frame before painting. Now we get to suffer it! The painter said that we should fix the bed just last, when all parts are installed.

I was thinking of cutting off the corner of the bed from the bottom and pulling the sides in the right position and welding again. Hopefully succeeds.
