Re: Rebuilding my wife's 56 Belair

Between snow, work and home projects it has been a month and a half since I have posted any progress on the 56.
Some progress has been made.
The headliner is installed, new front and rear windows are now installed,
all welding is completed, mounting holes are now drilled for side molding on the doors, and next to last primering & sanding are now done.
Next the engine compartment will be painted gloss black and the new engine and transmission will be test fitted.

She should be a very happy woman. Roundtuits always take so long to start.

Re: Rebuilding my wife's 56 Belair

Got your headliner done eh!! Got any hair left!! Hows your back? That was probably the hardest job on mine I built 20 years ago. Not a job you want to do everyday.
Nice to see you got another rare part on your 56. An uncut rad bar. Too many where cut for engine tranny r and r. You gonna front mount the motor and side mount the tranny??
Nice project!!!!

Nice project!!!!
Going with the side mounts on the engine and rear cross member for the transmission. Tried the other way the first time and ended up with a cracked transmission housing.

Re: Rebuilding my wife's 56 Belair

Short update.
Still working on the wiring, got the transmission cooling lines and cooler hooked up. Primed the engine oil, found the Sun tach from my old drag race car from the 1960's and wired it in.
Need to drop in the distributor in, find the screws for the instrument panel, wire up the fuel pump, put in the antifreeze, and fire it up.
Pictures to follow.

Re: Rebuilding my wife's 56 Belair

Well since March of this year I have been at WAR with this car. It has fought me every step of the way until now. New fuel pump failed after 2 days, wheels we bought switch from shoulder lug nuts to cone lug nuts causing the wheel studs to be 1/2 inch too short. New longer wheel studs came with 0.10 larger splines and had to machine both the axles, front hubs and brake drums.
The rebuilt speedo stripped its gears in the first 100 feet. Since its has been two years since I had it rebuilt it is out of warranty. The transmission has a mind of its own. Some days it goes right into gear and other days it is like it is taking the day off and will not move.
Well here are a couple of pictures of the beast.
When I feel like taking more pictures of it I will post them.

Re: Rebuilding my wife's 56 Belair

This thing looks great in person. I really love those buckets. Oh and I really love that tear drop scoop. Those are my favorite from the build era you have going. I thought about putting on on my panel.
