Got my numbers to beat

Friend of mine dynod his '77 K10 Cheyenne and it made 410 hp and 450 ft/lbs torque. I'm gonna try and top it when I rebuild the 350 in my truck

Yeah it is. Specs? A friend has a dyno and said he'd run mine in and make a few pulls to see what it will do. Not sure I want to know, his dyno is nicknamed the heartbreaker. What are you building?

As far as the specs on his truck, all I know is it's a 383 with a cam. The truck was built when he bought it a couple years ago. I plan on taking the 350 and 700R4 out of my sub and rebuilding them both. The 350 will be getting bored and stroked to a 383 with a rotating assembly from Eagle along with new heads and either a Voodoo or Thumper cam. I haven't figured out the intake yet though, I'm either gonna go carbed or TPI. I'm also gonna pull the rear end and put a posi-trac carrier and either 3:73 or 4:11 gears. I'm also going to redo the exhaust while I'm at it with full length headers, either 2.5" or 3" pipe with 8" glasspacks (I love disturbing the peace lol ).

Sounds similar to an engine I'm building. Is this going in one of your Z's? I knew they went in 240's pretty easily but haven't seen one in a 300 before.

skip the glasspacks for power....there are a lot better flowing mufflers out there that make as much or more noise.

410hp/450ftlbs (500hp at the crank factoring an 18% dt loss) at the wheels is pretty stout, that costs a lot of $$. if you want to make power, a cam like the thumper really isn't going to get you there, they sound cool, but aren't really designed for big numbers. also, a thumper cam and the tpi will be very difficult to tune.

John, we had a dyno at the junior college where I grew up, nicknamed the same thing! there were a lot of sad faces pulling out of that bay...haha

How are you going to find something that flows better than a glasspack, there's nothing there? I get what your saying though, I should just straight pipe it and be done with it lol

it may look straight through, but thats not how it flows. think of a glasspack as a backwards funnel, as all that air expands, then it has to restrict back down to go through the exit. it creates its own bottleneck. there is a pretty in depth science to creating an optimum exhaust system, its based on scavenging exhaust gases rather than just big pipes.

You got me there, never thought of it like that. I was also thinking about using Hooker Aerochambers or Moroso Spiral-Flows.

go for the aerochambers, they sound great and have an expansion chamber in them to reduce the in-cab drone. i have an aerochamber on my ls powered z/28.
