Proof Of Year

My friend over here in the United Kingdom has a 51 3100 pickupo made in South Africa (factory rh drive). The licensing agency over here is hasseling him to prove the year even though he has the GM id tag. Is there a second tag on the body that has year on it, and if so where should it be located?

Check the serial number on the engine. It's stamped into a pad just aft of the distributor. Some places used that for the VIN. The only other number is on the door frame, some places used that for the VIN. These will be the only numbers on the truck.

Thanks

the engine has been replaced with a diesel. We have the serial number tag but how do we convince the licensing department it is a 1951 model?

Chevy duty has a page with a summary of the features of different years.
http://www.chevyduty.com/frame-truck-years.html
You could print out the different years and show them where the truck line up.
