Period correct backrack?

Was there any period correct or original back racks ever produced for the 67-72 body style ?

Re: Period correct backrack?

Yes, people made headache racks for trucks back then. Just make one up in a way you like and it will be period correct. Luverne may have made one, but I'm not positive w/o looking into it. There may be others. But back then guys mostly made what they needed. All these bolt together ladder racks are a more recent thing, just as the Back Racks are

Re: Period correct backrack?

I think Luverne made a headache rack with back window protection. If my memory serves, they may have had short upright stubs to be used for whqat a Back rack is designed to do. But no, Back Racks are a recent product and back in the day there weren't a million bolt-on accessories made like there are now that pickup trucks are so popular. My point was not to say you can always make one. I figure anyone knows that. My point was that is what we did back then. Period correct would be make your own. I've been wanting to make one for my K2500 so I can remover the custom ladder rack on it now. My plan is build it on L channel that runs the length of the bed with a provision to insert a rear bar & legs with hitch pins so I can still haul ladders and scaffold level when required...which is only occasionally these days. I'll keep the front rack just high enough over the cab to allow for movement.
