Re: 1950 6100 floor push starter

Swap the on off switch for a starter switch cover up the hole in the floor. Only sixes came with the floor start.

I want to keep the floor starter there has to be a way of can use it on a different starter. I can't believe no one hasn't tried to use it or has information on trying it.

Re: 1950 6100 floor push starter

Two issues I can see. First is there enough room above the starter for the manual solenoid? Second the V8 is wider, so starter is farther to the passenger side, which means the bracket and arm will need extended. You will need to mock it up and start fabricating.

Re: 1950 6100 floor push starter

The original starter pedal used a mechanical linkage to mechanically activate the starter on trucks with the old straight six engines. That linkage is set up for the location of the starter on those engines and won't work with a modern v8 engine. You can absolutely still keep a starter pedal though. You'd just need to use an electrical switch rather than a mechanical linkage. Using something like a floor mounted momentary starter switch allows you to keep a stock starter pedal appearance and function and work with a different engine. These switches can be easily found in tractor parts catalogs. That's what I did in my truck:
