Re: 30 Years

Love stories like this. Also like that the truck looks the same, as mentioned above. More pics!

Re: 30 Years

Thank you all for the kind responses. I wish that I could find more old pictures to share. I will keep looking.

About a year ago I decided to get her back into shape. I have gone through the interior and tuned up all of the mechanical. The exterior has not had any attention. It has its warts. Some hail pings, horse teeth marks in the hood, thin paint and a couple small dents. Only rust are small spots on the lower exterior corners of the drivers door. Pretty straight overall given what she is. Really torn about repainting.

Paid $1250 in 1985. Priceless today. (I have successfully avoided confessing my LMC and Brothers infractions to my wife)

33 years are equally amazing. Very nice!

You reminded me of one scary memory. 20 years ago my wife's uncle helped me overhaul the motor. We did not replace the old fuel line. On the way home the line gave out and caused a spectacular fire. It just so happened, that by gods grace, I had a 5 gallon container of drinking water in the back which I used to put it out. Had to pull her home as every wire was burned off. Still have scorch marks insides where the carpet caught fire. VERY lucky to have saved her.

As a side note, the motor only has 10,000 on the rebuild. Need to get her out more....

Re: 30 Years

I am right there with you, bought my 68 in 1982. I won first place in a home town tractor pull at the rodeo arena. I drove it for years and parked it for a while and now it is completely disassembled and on it way back together. All new stuff with some minor mods.

31 years in Dec 2015 for me and my 69 SWB Fleetside. She sat for 14 in the basement waiting for a new engine/trans. Have an '98 LT1/4L60 combo going in now. Plus some other repairs.

Congrats!!

Lucky indeed! Coulda been a total loss, but it wasn't!

My worst memory was walking up to my truck, after 3 days in the woods with my bro, and finding that some rat bas%#@* had stolen my original full foam, no tear, perfect vinyl bench seat out of it!!! Like a dumb kid, I drove 8hrs. home on my backpack and sleeping bag! (That's the funny part of THAT story).

Re: 30 Years

Congratulations!!!

I've been married to my 69 for 46 years and my wife for 47. Every time I'm near the truck all the great memories flood back... camping in the old truck camper, hauling building supplies for the cabin and other projects, hauling the kids, family time together using the truck, hunting adventures, and the 3 year restoration starting in 2010. The truck is where I learned just about everything I know about working on vehicles.

I'm sure it's much the same with you!

Again... CONGRATULATIONS! Your truck looks great!

Jim
