69 k20 brake issues

My 69 k20 with manual brakes is giving me fits. I've replaced all wheel cylinders, one front brake hose(passengerside), and bench bled the master cylinder. I don't have fluid at the drivers side wheel. Only brake that works is passenger side front. I've got decent fluid at the rears, but still no good brakes. The drivers front has me baffled as to why I have no flow of fluid. Pedal has a lot of free play, too.Maybe plugged hose?? Any suggestions are welcome.

I would crack the hard line at top of the driver's side hose. If you have fluid the hose is bad.
Have you inspected the bore on the master cylinder?
What made you decide to replace the wheel cylinders and the one hose?
How did you adjust the shoes after replacing the wheel cylinders.

I'm voting on a collapsed hose

I haven't inspected the MC bore. I replaced the wheel cylinders due to one of them leaking and the truck has sat for a long time. Just now getting it road worthy. The brake hose started to leak. I adjusted the shoes to where the drum is tight and then backed it off some so it doesn't drag. I'll be checking out the drivers side hose today. Hopefully I can get one at the parts store.

Re: 69 k20 brake issues

Looks like the drivers brake hose on the front is swelled shut. Can't blow through it or get even the smallest wire to go through. Ordered one from my local NAPA and it will be here Monday. Hopefully that's the last part on this "simple" brake job!

Good news, in that the problem is now found. Did you replace the rear brake hose yet? Now would be the time if you haven't, since they are all probably the same age.

Re: 69 k20 brake issues

I listened to the advice I received from this awesome board when I had a bad brake hose. I replaced all three rubber hoses and my master and now my brakes are great.

I would replace all the rubber brake hoses and I would flush out all the lines too.

Re: 69 k20 brake issues

Looks like I've got brakes, finally! As per some recommendations I replaced the final 2 brake hoses and that fixed it. Now just waiting on my radiator to return from the repair shop and this truck will be on the road for the first time in 30 years.
