Here is the link to the build. Look at post 317. His troubles began when he went to coilovers. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=368649

He used the stock stamped steel K-Member, this is why he had the flex.

Thank You sirs, I read the thread and see that you are right ghettoluxury, it was due to using the stock K member.

I am going to head over to the shop and work on the frame a little bit more today. ( grind down the welds etc on the boxing plates)

I am also going to try to fix the pulling of the frame end.

Re: My Wife's 55.2 Carryall / Suburban build

Here is a picture of the boxing plate I made for this. It is out of 3/16" plate that I had laying around. It is of the same plate I used for the front. Since the picture was taken I have welded it up and ground it down.

I couldn't for the life of me try to figure out what would look best connecting the dog bone bracket to the frame so I had a W.W.B.D. moment and came up with this.
It is made out of 1/8" plate that I had left over from an order I just did this last week.

I had bent it up in my metal Brake.

Then I decided to close it in. I am going to add some more gusset plate to it to sturdy it up. I might even do a few dimples in it to dress it up a bit. I might also cut an inch out of the right side plate (facing) and bend the top/bottom cover plate to give it a little dress up although am not too sure yet.

I think it looks a little goddy but am not sure yet.

It is a few inches away from the factory dog bone bracket as I am going to use 5/8" rod ends and some D.O.M. tubing for a custom 4 link setup, and so it is fully adjustable later.

Re: My Wife's 55.2 Carryall / Suburban build

Well, its been a little while since I was able to get on the burban. Today I was able to get the front crossmember tack welded in and suspension mocked up on it. Yesterday I was able to weld in the boxing plates and almost all of the way ground down.
So, happy to back on it again.
woo hoo

Thank you very much Kim57 and Chuckdriver.

A little progress today on the rear as I started removing the leaf spring brackets so can start to weld in the 4 link brackets.

Re: My Wife's 55.2 Carryall / Suburban build

Well I managed to start attaching the rear 4 link brackets on. I also cut and tack welded the bracket that holds the front of the rear end or the pumpkin nose. I also had to re fabricate the wing mounts as the holes were slightly off by 3/32" total. I finally got those done and tack welded in also.
Today I am hoping to finish welding up the 4 link brackets as my heim joints should be here by this Friday. Pictures to follow, soon as I get the rear section welded up.

Re: My Wife's 55.2 Carryall / Suburban build

update,
I was able to cut and weld in the Front C-Notches today for the Rack & pinion.
Here are a few pictures of it:

This is an inside view of what it looked like.^

for those interested, I used a 4" hole saw to make life easy.

Re: My Wife's 55.2 Carryall / Suburban build

fabguy, looks great. When I did the one on the 51, I added tubing from the front of the crossmember and tied it into the bottom of the radiator support. That way it would triangulate the area and put some strength back in. I just did not like that the frame was notched out for the rack that much. I figured if you hit something with the bumper it would fold the front of the frame easily.

I like that Idea, that is a GREAT thought too. I am going to look into doing just that now. That weak point from the front C notch bothered me also although didn't cross my mind about an accident.

Thank you, That would be great but, my shop is set up for doing general fabrication (when work comes in anyway).
As for the work on this frame, I don't think it's worthy of that yet. I am my own worst critic though.
