Advance Adapters bellhousing question (for NV4500 swap)

I have a '94 NV4500 out of a K2500 diesel that I'm going to swap into my '83 K2500 that has a 6.2L diesel and SM465. I was looking into using the Advance Adapters 712577 bellhousing to mate the NV4500 to the 6.2L while still using the stock mechanical clutch linkage, but the AA tech person wasn't sure if the stock 12" clutch would fit in this bellhousing. Has anyone used this AA bellhousing with a stock style 12" clutch?

Thanks.

Go to the AA web site where you can get the conversion guide, or call them.

I took a lake wood blow proof bell housing drilled the center out to fit then drilled new bolt holes for the mounting bolts welded nuts on the inside. Now i can run a hydraulic or mechanical clutch and a 12 inch works great .I wanted the fork on the drivers side to clear the front drive shaft .Saved a lot of money!Hope this helps

Re: Advance Adapters bellhousing question (for NV4500 swap)

There's a member on Colorado K5 that did the same swap and he said that he had to do some minor clearancing on the inside of the bell housing the clear the diesel starter and the clutch. He said it wasn't a big deal though. I've been looking at doing the same swap with my K5.

Cheapest I've been able to find the bell housing is from 4wd dot com at $360 free shipping. You rill also need their bracket (715534) for the Z-bar pivot ball. Their bell housing doesn't have a provision for it.

Re: Advance Adapters bellhousing question (for NV4500 swap)

I can’t answer if the AA bell fits a 12” clutch behind a 6.2L but I can confirm the AA NV4500 bell fits a 12” clutch fits behind a TBI 5.7L and Vortec 8.1L with no clearancing required. I don’t see why a 6.2L would be any different. I’m running the AA bell for the NV4500 in my K10 and Burb.

K10 NV4500 swap

Suburban NV4500 swap

The AA bell fit right over this 12" Centerforce with no problems

As Mr.Chevy4x4 mentioned, don't forget the pivot ball bracket as the AA bell does not have provisions for the ball.

Thanks Larry. That's good information. I need to research but I think the clutches for the 6.2L and gassers are the same (the flywheel is different though).

Re: Advance Adapters bellhousing question (for NV4500 swap)

IIRC the diesel flywheel has a different number of teeth and the nose on the starter is larger.

Re: Advance Adapters bellhousing question (for NV4500 swap)

Now that you mention it, I believe it was the flywheel ring gear and starter nose that required clearancing the bell housing. I do remember he said it wasn't a lot. I've been searching for the thread, and for some reason I can't find it again.
