Post carb question

Hey guys, just wondering if you can give me some help. I would like to replace the stock quadrajet carb I have on my stock 350. Before I talk to the so called specialists, I would like to ask the real gurus on this board. Would the Edelbrock performer series be good? Do I need a special adapter for the spread bore manifold? What CFM would be ideal for an everyday driver? 600 cfm/750? Any suggestions would be extremely welcome. Thanks all.

for a stock 350 go with the 600, the edelbrock is a very good carb, bolt it on and go..... if putting it on a stock manifold you will need an adaptor

I think edelbrock makes a spread bore replacement. I would reccomend getting a edelbrock, I personally don't like holleys they take alot of adjusting to keep them running decent.

I agree with the Edelbrock. The 1901 Edelbrock replaces the Quadrajet on the 350, the stock fuel line and accel cable fit with no mods.

Heck,,,go for the Edelbrock performer intake too,,,(sans EGR) it's only another $100.00. The 600 cfm will perform nicely on that 350. I recomend going with the electric choke also.

If you get that carb, you will NEED a spacer. It'll run like crap without it. I was able to bolt one onto a stok intake, but the extra 100 bones is well spent on the intake. When I slippefd the new intake under that carb it was night and day differance.

Just to clear things up a bit for you, the 600 cfm Performer carb is P/N 1406 with electric choke; P/N 1405 without. These carbs require their P/N 2696 adapter for your stock manifold. Edelbrock's P/N 1901 is an aftermarket 750 cfm Quadrajet, but costs very big bucks.

Thanks all for the informative replies. Misfits, I couldn't tell you the benefits/disadvantages of the sqaure bore vs. spread bore, can you elaborate a little more. I am definetly leaning toward the performer series because of the reduced costs, rather than the Q-jet replacement form Edelbrock. Rather would save the money toward my ultimate goal of a nicely stoked 383 stroker. Thanks again all.

Well I've got a holley 750 spreadbore double pumper and I HATE it it is the biggest piece of... I am going to switch to a 600 electric choke Edlebrock and proformer intake. As for the differnce, on a spreadbore the rear barrels are bigger. Supposedly it will give you better gas mileage if you only use the first two. I don't know if thats true but if it is I don't care I hate that holley so much.

I am planning on eventually getting a Performer or Performer RPM carb and manifold, but I don't know what choke to get, I've heard so many conflicting opinions.

The elect choke equipped carbs are set up leaner than the hand choke versions. I would say , for a daily driver.....go for the elc choke. For a more perf set up, the hand choke is my choice. Either can be recalibrated,so its a matter of whether you feel like bolting the carb on,or you are willing to tune it........69 longhorn.

OK, thanks! I think the electric choke will be the one to go with, this is going to be a daily driver with a little more power than the average DD but not a dragster or anything.
