Question Front Wheel Bearings question

I have a question about the front wheel bearings on my '68. Currently I have 4 wheel drum brakes, and the two front drums still have the (I guess you would call it) the bearing housing and grease caps integral with the drum - and can't pull them without removing the bearing castle nut that holds it onto the spindle. My quick question is what torque or tightness will the nut require when reassembling? Thanks in advance, Ned

Re: Front Wheel Bearings question

Hi Ned,

I found this on another thread here on the forum.

See ya.

Steve

This is from the 69 Chassis Manual;

1. Jack up front...

2. Tighten adjusting nut to 15 lb.ft while rotating hub in both directions.

3. Back off nut one flat (1/6 turn) and insert new cotter pin. If nut and spindle hole do not line up, back off slightly (1/6 turn) to align cotter pin. This adjustment provides for .001" to .008" bearing end clearance.

4. Spin hub to make sure it turns freely.
