Had to Hitch a Ride Home Yesterday

Truck just quit on me. Turns out it was the Crankshaft Position Sensor (LS1)
Wanted a GM part so I went to the dealer and bought the $90 Delco. On the package it says
“Made in China - Mainland. LOL. Don’t we make anything here anymore
Only good part of this is it solved the problem

Re: Had to Hitch a Ride Home Yesterday

That’s crazy, but true. Almost nothing made here any more.

For work I’m buying hydroelectric turbines and generators, and none of the manufacturers are here.

Glad you got it taken care of.

Surreal and disturbing the export of our manufacturing especially to the PRC, which relies heavily on coal powered energy.

...and there is detectible hacking on our infrastructure. Should never have gone to foreign manufacturers, but that ship has (literally) sailed.

Re: Had to Hitch a Ride Home Yesterday

Yeah, I bought a dang "Genuine GM" tailgate support cable from the dealer for my '92 years ago. Made of Chinesium!!

I went to Harley for a rear fender that I used to pay around $100 for, not so long ago. A fender I've seen a man buffing out in a video from 1990, at the York, PA plant. In the early 2000s I toured that plant and they had a robot doing that job. Back to inquiring about a new fender at Harley, I was shocked when I was told it would cost $350, and this was 10 years ago. I said I'd have to hold off and the parts guy said, "Don't wait too long because it will take a while to get here. They're made "overseas", which we all know is the way to mask saying "China". So, why are things made in China now? It certainly isn't to bring us cheaper prices. Now we get junk that costs more, with an American company's label, that take jobs away from Americans to fatten the middleman's wallet. That fender is not a Harley fender. Harley made fenders in York, PA and they sold licensing to aftermarket companies who have them made in China, and now Harley sells the same fender with their inflated "brand name" price because only they have the legal right to stick a Harley Davidson label on it...same as GM does

Think it has a lot to do with production . If the bike is old and not made by Harley anymore you get Chinese parts . I bought a rear fender for the Road Glide a few years ago . I got it painted from the factory in a week and it said Made in USA on the tag . Harley no longer makes Vrods or Dyna models . That why they closed (didn’t sell off) the production line and moved the Sportster line to York . I’m sure replacement body parts will now be made in China for the discontinued bikes .

It's about communist China wanting everyone to believe that Taiwan is part of communist China. In their eyes Taiwan is non-mainland China.

Right. It's not a Harley part but sold at a Harley price because it's labeled as a Harley part, which was my point. Smoke & mirrors business model that dominates the market. Who made what is now the question. Like so called N.O.S. 67-72 parts with a bar code being sold obviously after the "old stock" had been depleted. Those parts are the same Taiwan parts they licensed an aftermarket company to reproduce that GM has the legal right to put their old part# on and package as "Genuine GM Parts"
