I measure from 2 in your picture.

Re: Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

Chris -- you ordering axles for it ? I understand Buck found some conversion axles at Advance Auto Parts. $158.xx shipped to your door. Did you see that thread?

Your axles will be 31 5/16" long. They're easy to swap out. That will give you a lot of options for wheels too. 6 lug steelies are kinda hard to come by.

Chris -- here's that thread on the conversion axles. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=564907

How do they compare to Moser? Not really sure man .. other than price. Remember you'll need new bearings and seals too. ~$40

It took Dad and I maybe a total of two hours to do the full swap. The key is going to be the bolt that holds the Pin in place. 95% chance it will break when it comes out. If it does, don't worry. PM me, I've got the fix for it. It's all pretty common. Mine broke when I took it out.

Here is the original pic that my avatar is based on and the photoshop that CC69Rat's dad did for me prior to me buying my truck. He was trying to show me the possibilities of my truck with a just drop and some rims.

Re: Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

Well guys, as far as updates go. Life is a funny thing. Right when you get used to the status quo, life throws a few curve balls your way. Just to keep things interesting you know? So here's a list of the curve balls I've received in the last couple months.

1. 70ft section of hurricane fence had the bottoms of the poles rust out causing the fence to lay down (somehow I missed the rust a year and a half ago when we bought this house)

2. house got termites

3. a woman attempting to turn left swung wide (right) into my daily driver Mazda 3 as I was going straight beside her through an intersection. (Fortunately she had insurance)

3a. The body shop took over a month and a week to properly fix my Mazda. (Too long of a story)

4. When I finally got my car back. I noticed a clunking and squeaking sound in the rear end. Turned out to be the rear shocks and swaybar end links.

5. Got the Mazda back again and a week later both low beam headlights stopped working. Oh yeah and the water pump started leaking.

So, while life was just keeping things interesting, it was siphoning cash away from my truck fund. I mean hey, I guess all that qualifies as updates. Just not the updates I would have chosen

Chris I know the feeling. Life has its ways of sneaking in and robbing the joy from truck building! lol But then there are things in life that are worth taking time from the truck thing, example... My wife and I just had our first little one! He is 7 weeks old now and I have found being a dad is amazing! I hope you can get back on your truck soon! Its looking good!!

Re: Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

Chris --

Hang in there man. Life just happens sometimes. Ex. Read back over your post. Ask yourself what could you have done differently? I can't think of anything.. See what I mean? I am a worrier and stress over stuff too man but I just turned 40. I made a commitment to myself that I was going to get over stuff. Just ask yourself had it never happened is there anything I could have done to prevent it? .. well, not really. So why beat yourself up. I know it sucks but you just gotta pick up what you can and run with it.

The good thing about your truck is the longer you keep it, the more it's worth. The truck is not going anywhere, it's not eating anything. .. hang on to it as long as you can. They're getting super hard to find. I know what you paid for that truck and I can tell you with 100% certainty you could sell it right now and make a profit on it. Put $2k in a good 4/6 drop and a set of wheels and your profit margin goes even higher.

With these trucks, IMO it's all about the stance. You have to get it looking clean, but agressive too. Not over done but a stock looking truck with modern features, suspension, wheels, engines, etc. is really popular right now. These trucks are finally gaining some respect among the First Gen Camaros for example. I bought a running and driving 1969 Camaro for $2,300 when I was 18yrs old. Original California car, you could eat off the floor pans. Now, you couldn't touch that same car for less than $15k.

What I'm saying is there's no love lost in your truck. It can wait. .. take it one day at a time, do what you have to do and one day you'll turn around and the truck will be done.

Re: Project O.G. - My First Ever Build

Thanks Chad. I wasn't really trying to complain. I just wanted to inform my forum buddies why this page has gone unchanged for so long. But I know what you mean about being a worrier. I tend to overthink and worry more than most. I will say this, don't buy a fixer up house and fixer up truck at the same time

LOL! I'm right there with you buddy. I have my master bathroom gutted at the moment.. moving a wall, new floor, plumbing, moved a jetted tub, tile, new linen closet, drywall .. yeah, it's fun. It has taken a lot of my truck time too but sometimes you just have to do the best you can.

Man, after seeing that list of all the house stuff you've been working on just makes your truck look that much more impressive.

Oh, and I gotta say this, all the "worrying" you went through when choosing your wheels was well worth it. You nailed it!
