Early 4x4 Conversion

Lately I've been bench building some and had a thought... I know where a 1937 chevy pickup is that needs redone and was thinking it may be a cool 4x4, not a full blown monster, but a simple 4x4 on 33/35 inch tires.

My question is about the front axle swap. Instead of a frame swap which lots of times look butchered, i would prefer to simply swap in a straight front axle. The truck already has a mustang ll front end, can I just cut that out, weld in spring hangers and find a axle close in width? Is it that simple or am I way off? I know a transfer case and driveshafts are needed, and mounts needto be built, just never done this so I wanted to make sure i am on the right track
