Re: my 48 s10 swap

this is what we started with, flipped on the firewall to do the bottom, back, top, and some of the sides.

Had to fix the cab split, the floor was separating from the supports and such.

Also had to weld up the center mount(kit has 4 mounts, not stock 3 although it uses front stock mounts)

Nail gun, slide hammer, etc etc, TOOLS

practice...practice...first time welding...be gentle

instructions, this is partly welded i believe

and our SICK battery tray cover....huge metal shear + trim corners = perfection

Re: my 48 s10 swap

ok...3rd page is not cool. Ive got the cab in body filler right now...its very very close to being done. My goal is to have the cab mounted by next friday. Ill post up pics when it gets metal etch primed and mounted. Then ill be off for a week for spring break...btw body work SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS....i hate it haha. After metal etch prime we'll prime it and block sand it, then jam it with the gunmetal grey. Then comes motor, i guess there is an update. We bought new stock s10 motor mounts and bought the v8 conversion mounts from jagsthatrun.com and will be going that route. The mounts look to be very good quality. Then the 700r4 trans w/ corvette clutches(noob talk i know) and a new torque converter followed by a driveshaft made by yours truely(more like my autos teacher) and the driveline should be finished. Then ill probably put the front belt system on, radiator, trans cooler and wire it up. Then ill throw on the front clip, cut the inner fender skins for control arm movement and then the hood. We will also paint the firewall and fender skins black.

Re: my 48 s10 swap

Friday i got the cab mounted(with some help from a couple autos classmates) The front went smooth as glass, the AD kit makes it soo simple, im sure on later trucks with the rear mounts its easy. We mounted the front and put the bolts through then moved to the back and squared it up. then i drilled up from the bottom and bolted it down. Next tuesday when i go back to class im goin to cut a little out of the seat frame and put a 'washer' of sorts in. Just to add stability and strength. I dont know how much you can see it but we(my teacher) metal etch primed the whole cab, then primed it(many coats). Then the bottom got painted gloss black. After i finish mounting the cab ill finish the body work on the doors then prime them, hang them and fit the gaps. Then block the whole thing. Then its MOTOR TIME

Re: my 48 s10 swap

looks like it's really coming together! at the price of gas (3.60) here a nice 6 cylinder might be a option unless you have something else for daily driving. gotta be nice when you got help like that.did you figure out the lock situation?

Re: my 48 s10 swap

BAH gas....lol its an extra truck. No way in hell am i making my hotrod with anything less than a v8. Ive got my taurus, gpa has his blazer and camry. We bought a 350 brand new from GM for 1700 so...it was a nice deal haha As far as the lock thing....i havent figured it out, its kinda buggin me too. I cant do much as all the latches and lock components are at the HS and were on break. i need to figure out how the pass side works and see if i can fab something up to make it work.....

Re: my 48 s10 swap

Well...i have one of the doors hangin in the paint room and the other needs about 5 minutes of sanding then its ready. So i will probably shoot those on monday. Then we will hang the doors and even the gaps all the way around. I finished up the doors this week, along with permanently mounting the cab, so kind of a slow week, but i dont work after school anymore so the updates should come more readily

Re: my 48 s10 swap

update: I metal etch primed then epoxy primed the doors and firewall monday night. Today we got the dash block sanded along with the firewall and i started in on the roof. The plan is to get the roof done, then hang the doors, set the gaps and finish blocking the rest of the cab and prime whatever i need to once(hopefully) more, sand that down and its done!! Ill have to get pics up of the doors and firewall, i also covered my frame completely in 3M plastic. By the end of next week my goal is to have this thing ready for motor!!
