Thank you. As of right now the tags are out of date and she is sitting.. PLanning to do the idiot lights to gauges swap pretty soon. I need to get some more pictures up. I had the diff welded up and it completely changed the attitude of the truck. Not very much came out of the rear end when we opened her up, and what did come out looked like muddy water!

Did the gauge swap, fuel gauge still don't work and neither does the speedo. The truck has been parked again for a little because I have to get a new steering gearbox and straighten out the driver side frame horn.

Re: "The Convict"

Been a while huh? Anyone remember I got the th400 built? Well the truck is parked because it has a broken bell-housing. I had the 12 bolt welded up because it apparently was just lsd not posi, and stopped working. Now I believe I may have stripped an axle spline, but I havent pulled it apart to check. IF anyone wants, I'll upload some pictures of the poor bell-housing

What was the original rim/tire size that was on it when you first got the truck? Sorry to hear about your 400, mine isn't doing so hot at the moment either as I'm basically driving around in first gear

Naw, I never did any hunting in Texas. I need to update my location again. I'm back in Florida, near Pensacola.

Got the trans out.. Got a real job and been working. Bought a 4l80e for the truck. Gonna run it using a jakes performance control box. http://shop.jakesperformance.com/Man...80E-JP-MCB.htm Should make for a fun truck. All the performance of a turbo 400, with the addition of full manual, and over drive!

Re: "The Convict"

Got the 4l80 in and buttoned up. Everything was going good until it started leaking. Its leaking from the return trans cooler line? The fitting is tight, and so is the trans cooler line. Should there be an O-Ring on the fitting? Thread Tape? Someone help me out here.

So you're manually shifting each gear?

Re: "The Convict"

Interesting I'm curious how well that works out long term. I can understand a race vehicle but seems like a daily driver would get tiresome after a while.

Feels great to upgrade, i know the feeling also. Just wanted to mention, the photos attached here show a Mark IV (68-1990) 454. No Gen V (1991-1995) had a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the block like your does. The only 454 newer than 1990 that had that provision was the aftermarket Vortec 7.4 L29 (1996-2000 Gen VI). The factory blocks did NOT feature this. And i doubt that is what you have as that iron boat anchor intake you have on there is a factory smog motor intake. My RV bb had this one until i swapped it out for a rectangle port 396 aluminum intake. Just sayin.....

it doesnt, i shift mine manually with these toggle switches. Having to prgram a damn computer would get tiresome especially when it keeps throwing codes and puttin tranny in limp mode.

Throttle pin bypassed, those soda can sized secondaries really wake it up. Yours probably only had the primaries opening. A QJ can also be hacked to 900 cfm, that is if your into sloppy mechanix.

I have run the numbers on the back of the block and heads many many times. it is a gen v engine, but its a gm crate engine with the fuel pump provision. Yes, it is def a mark IV intake. I plan to put an aftermarket intake on at some point. I have had a lot going on late. I moved back to texas, and had to leave the truck in Florida. Sitting with no starte, and no battery. I need to go get it and start daily driving it again.

Wow, very rare part as it is unheard of that ANY gen v would have the provision. Im willing to bet its a "leftover" mark iv with the gen v casting. I had a 96 502 H.O. (leftover block prior to gen vi production) when i bought my '80 sub and it didnt have the provision. On a side note i have a '75 pontiac 455 thats supposed to have the 500xxx casting but has the 70-74 485428 casting = leftover block from 74 used for 75 factory cars. The factory does that and so does the aftermarket.

Re: "The Convict"

Update.. spider gears cracked where the rear end was welded, so we re-welded it. It lasted 40 minutes and went boom. So we re-re-welded it and fixed the cover (photos attached) and it last a day or so and I believe it broke a c clip. Gonna go see Tony Kee (Texas Square bodies) and get a rear end, and maybe some un-cut coil springs.

Re: "The Convict"

Found a bangin' deal little closer to me for a 12 bolt, got some new coil springs as well. So it's back to stock height. Hopefully not for long.

Welded it a while back, held on for a long time (2-3 years). Specially the way I drive. Re-welded it when it broke like three times (in a month or so) for the heck of it. Thought about going 14 bolt FF but didn't wan to go 8 lug. Next thought was 14 bolt SF (6 lug) but the one I got from a 88-98 was to wide. Bought another clean 12 bolt to start over. Going to actually Get a spool for this one.

Gonna run it using a jakes performance control box. http://shop.jakesperformance.com/Man...80E-JP-MCB.htm Should make for a fun truck. All the performance of a turbo 400, with the addition of full manual, and over drive!
your gonna need the trans go vacuum modulator to drop line pressure since by default with jakes box it will be full line all the time. NOT good. But dont drill the case wit the tapped fitting that comes in the kit, drill thru the pan on the pass. side like i did and run regular vac hose to the intake.
