Re: Am I the only one that loses things?

I know the feeling! I have been looking for a set of comp cams roller rocker arms for a year now Of course I put them in asafe place where I could find them. And how come I have two sets of front side marker lights and none for the rear. I keep waiting for the golden years to kick in.HA!

Re: Am I the only one that loses things?

I laughed out loud when I saw your thread, since I've lost, misplaced or simply never owned parts that I thought I had. All the time, I'm walking from my pole barn to the house to "look for" what i thought was a pair of somethings that I took up to the house, rather than looking for them alongside my glasses on my workbench in the pole barn. It's a running joke that if anything is lost or misplaced, I blame my granddaughter, of course she's in school during the days I lose things. But ain't life great.

Re: Am I the only one that loses things?

I've already told the story about losing and finding a pistol in another thread.

Who has more than one coffee cup so they will have one to replace the one they lost this morning.

The guys at work bring my insulated cups to me regularly. My wife bought us the expensive ones a while back, and after a couple days I said something about my coffee cup one morning, and she sad "that's my cup" I said "where is my cup", you know the rest.

I finally found mine at the shop and used a label maker to put a banner on it with my name.

I still haven't found my smart phone (I keep waiting for it to call me) I don't think it's as smart as everyone says it is..... Or my wallet with $1200 in it. I know it's not going to call me..

... I think the wallet ended up in the dumpster when I was removing shingles from a garage roof and I still think the phone is around home here someplace but so far no luck finding it.

Re: Am I the only one that loses things?

I was out of town a couple of days a few years ago. My wedding ring disappeared on the trip.

You should have dragged up a chair for that explanation.

Luckily I was staying with my daughter. But I still had to file a complete chronological report, supported with GPS data, phone records and witnesses to talk my butt out of that one.

I lose tools in my pockets all the time. That's the worst when I'm at work and trying to get something done... sometimes I don't find them again until I get home!

Re: Am I the only one that loses things?

This is why my wife thinks I'm in the garage just standing around, she will ask what I'm doing, I'll holler back,..I'm looking for something!!!. Most times I just give up, it wastes too much time, is this the reason I have three of everything???

Re: Am I the only one that loses things?

I just spent the better part of the last 3 days looking for one of the original clamps for my fuel filler neck. I had it in my hand, getting ready to clean it , got interrupted , I dropped the clamp back into the same bag with other tank parts, when i came back i could not find it.
searched in and out allover, no clamp. Today i put a generic band clamp on the filler neck, and to finish the job i put the gas cap on. there on the bottom of the cap was my clamp.
i hate when stuff like that happens, i feel dumber than dirt.
but at least it got found.

I don't talk to myself much. It's a poor source of information.

Uh oh, you probably remember my old sig that went something like, " I always talk to myself, it's the best way to get expert information".

I was lying one of those time, but I can't remember which.

I have had similar things happen.

The magnetic parts trays can be a problem. When I start putting things back together, something always ends up stuck to the bottom, out of sight.

Re: Am I the only one that loses things?

We're not stupid. We have places where we ALWAYS keep things we need to find everyday. Things like keys, phone, wallet...right? Those are things we can eliminate from this frustrating routine, right? Yeah, that's why when I can't find one of those I loose my mind!!! . The most important need everyday stuff...ARGH!!!! It's always when ya gotta go!

I lost my wallet once. I "remember" I had it when we stopped at a convenience store after leaving the job the day before. I went back there to ask and look in the trash can outside where I "remember" setting my coffee while I waited for the other guys. Not there, never found it, had to cancel cards, get new license...and new wallet! I had a couple hundred bucks in there, too. That was this time of year when it starts getting warm. Spring comes, then summer and fall, and along comes colder weather again. That first colder day and it's time to pull the Carhart bibs out. Huh, what just fell on the floor as I unfold these? Thump, it's my wallet! I never did lose it, had it all the while, just couldn't find it. I NEVER lose my wallet

Re: Am I the only one that loses things?

Things I lose on a daily basis: pencils and ink pens. I lay it down for literally one second and BOOM it's gone. Thus I have dozens of pens and pencils all over the house so I have one handy.

I was packing up my car three weeks ago for a ski trip to Vermont. I laid the garage keys down and BOOM those were "lost." I spent 45 minutes looking all over for those, including removing all the gear from the car and looking through it all.

Turns out I had laid those down on a ladder when my mother asked me something. Absent-mindedness is all that is.

My garage is such a mess that I have had to buy 2nd and 3rd editions of the same tool since it's lost in the mess. When I finally get my garage organized I will have a great stock of tools. LOL

Along this train of thought;

My man cave is downstairs, and since I can't handle "The Voice, DWTS, and that other stuff she watches, I head down those 15 steps as soon as possible.

When I come down, I bring a tray of food, a glass of ice water, my laptop and a Yeti cool cup.

That's four items.

Anybody want to guess how many times I went up and down those 15 steps tonight before I was able to finally settle in?
