Aftermarket hood

Hey.. got a hood that's taken a slight beating in it's time and I'm deciding on whether to try my hand at some panel beating (first time so could go very wrong) or try an lmc or other brand hood.. anyone have any experience with aftermarket hoods..do they fit okay, line up etc.
The hood is a big part of the truck and a hood out of wack just looks bad.
Thoughts?

Re: Aftermarket hood

Not sure what year you have but I picked up a 81-87 NOS GM hood from this military surplus website. Only $79, but like $150 freight shipping. But it is new in the box GM, mine was dated 1991.

Mine was perfect. Can't beat the price for a real GM hood.

Re: Aftermarket hood

I just contacted them and they don't ship the hoods anymore cos they get damaged to often. I was excited there for a moment lol.

Re: Aftermarket hood

I would recommend trying to find a used one. Craigslist or a local junkyard. Nothing fits as good as original metal. I've heard that aftermarket hoods can be kinda cheap and crappy. That being said if you have to get aftermarket look into Auto Metal Direct. Most people seem to be happy with their parts quality.

Re: Aftermarket hood

I think original is the way to go as well. Thanks for all input.

That's a bummer. Explains why they still have them in stock.
