Temp range

Hey guys. I just got an 86 square. I replaced the radiator and flushed the whole cooling system and put in a 190 degree thermostat. What should be the normal running temp. It always goes to 210 and stays there. Is this normal? It seems high

Re: Temp range

IF the gauge is accurate, 210 is about right for a 195* thermostat. The temp on the t-stat is the point it is supposed to start to open, not the temp it maintains. The operating temp will be 10~20 higher then the start to open point.

Don't assume the 31 year old gauge is spot on. Even a 5% variance is +-10 at 200.

Buy or borrow a laser temp reader and check the temp at the t-stat housing and entry point into the radiator once the motor is at operating temps.

Re: Temp range

Yeah, if you are talking about the stock gauge that is close enough. My 03 Caddy runs 210 all the time for efficiency.

Re: Temp range

Mine runs 205-210 with a 195 t-stat and one of those terrible flex fans. Nothing to worry about.
