Re: Lets see some 73-87 work horses

Heres mine, it usually pulls the trailer its sitting on.. well this is before I did some cosmetic work to it.. and put the 454 in. The paint brightens up in direct sunlight. It moves boats around all summer, and its the parts chaser for the car builds I am doing. Needs a cam and intake swap so it doesnt eat so much gas.

Here is after the work

and here in the snow a while back. It doesnt do much during winter, dont have the posi in yet, and its kinda low. Over 4" of snow and it doesnt wanna go.

Re: Lets see some 73-87 work horses

Here are a couple of pics of my 78 K-30. The truck has been commercially plowing for thirty years straight! The engine has never been touched and the odometer reads 81,000. The truck was ordered with a single rear wheel but optioned with a 4'' longer wheelbase.Being a bit longer actually makes it track through the snow much better.I have never come across another one with this wierd option! I just had the frame sandblasted and painted and am getting it ready for this fridays snowfall. Kurt from CT.

The pic with my 77 was taken in late July that year. This pic of the 79 was taken on the other side of the creek 2 years later.

My 87 One Ton 4 Wheel. This truck spent it's whole life serving the grounds crew of Ball State University in Muncie Indiana. I'm the second owner. Got it at an auction last summer, fulley equipped with functional Boss V-Plow

Re: Lets see some 73-87 work horses

Here's my weekend get-er-done pickup, 1973 Chevy C20 3/4 ton longbed with original wood bed floor and homemade wood bed sides. I call her "Ole Reliable"; she starts up every time. My dad gave her to me when he moved out of the state. Her duties include hauling firewood, trash loads to the dump and supply trips to Home Depot.

She ain't pretty but she has the muscle!

P.S. I didn't get photos, but used her recently to haul my busted Toy 4Runner to a repair shop on a U-Haul auto transport trailer. She grunted a bit but got it towed there.

Re: Lets see some 73-87 work horses

Mine gets worked & driven, and will continue to work & be driven even after it's finished. I tend to gravitate more toward trucks that can be used for their intended purpose even after the build is done.

Kind of a shameful representation due to the lack of bumper/tow package. It had the obligitory huge step bumper and I torched it off. I'm building a hitch that will fit behind the plate, then I plan on running a Suburban bumper.

...but there is an air compressor in the bed.

Re: Lets see some 73-87 work horses

Here's my '85 that is in Chevy heaven now. I paid $150 for it and drove it 30-40 miles to work each way for about 2 years.

Here's my '86 that I drove to work and pulled boats, four wheelers, and hauled firewood in for 4 years.

Then I went and completely gave her a makeover. I won't lie and say I still use her for dirty work anymore. I've got a '97 Do$%# Cummins for that.

Re: Lets see some 73-87 work horses

Here are pics from the first 2 missions my work horse has been on.

Yeah, i'm reviving some old threads, but i have been unable to post for a little bit and wanted the chance to toss my steed in to get the recognition that a good work horse deserves!

(by the way, i know, i know, the bondo job SUCKS! I have relized that i just don't have the patients required to do a good job, so i'm going to have one of my buddies do it for me...by the way i'm dropping it off tonight for the body work and primer.)

Welcome back, I've been wondering what happened to you. That bondo job just needs massaged a little. Not bad. Those wheels make your truck look better.
