Opinions on tons swap?

I'd like to put tons under my 88 by next December. I also want a 7" lift and H1 beadlocks with 37's. Any ideas of what to do first, etc etc?

I was thinking of putting the D60(DRW)/14BFF(DRW from non C&C) under it and running a set of cheap wheels/tires. Then after I get all the stuff for the lift do the H1's and 37's. Or should I just collect all of the parts and do it all at once? Opinions wanted. I can save around $400/month. Thanks, Bradley

Re: Opinions on tons swap?

Gather the parts because you will end up doing everything 2-3 times and getting upset with your self and the project.

Re: Opinions on tons swap?

Tons?...Oh.one ton axles, right? If I already had 8-lugs I'd swap axles, then lift or visa-versa. But,since you have 6-lug I'd gather everything and do it at the same time.
I'm in a similar situation with my '72 that I want to lift 6",put 37s on,and Dana60/HO52 w/4.10s. I have the axles, springs, shocks, wheels, and tires now. I want to go all through the front axle and don't really have the money to right now. I'd just lift it and do the front axle later but my present gears are 3.54s and the truck is an automatic. I doubt I'll even want to drive it until the axles/ratio are switched anyway. I'm tempted to just swap it all in and mess with the front axle once it's in. I'll have all the hard work behind me and the truck sitting how I want it,but I need to rely on it as a back up. So,I'm being patient and waiting until I get the time and the money to tear into the Dana60 first. I could just swap the rear and not use 4wd,but it really makes sense just to wait and have it right all at once. I've been waiting a looooong time and it sucks.

Re: Opinions on tons swap?

I'd wait and do it all at once, do the research figure out exatly what you want, buy the parts and assemble.
My D60 sat disasembled for three years and when I got it put back together I got in a huge rush to install it and lift the truck so I took a few short cuts and now I'm paying for it. I don't like half the things I did and now I have to take the truck apart and spend the money to do it right. I had 73-up front leafs arched to fit a 72, gave it almost eight inches of lift but they ride and look like crap.

Re: Opinions on tons swap?

Take your time and do it right the first time. Gather up your parts, it sucks I know looking at all the parts. I'd buy everything backwards to help with the urge to just do. Buy the wheels and tires, lift, then axles (unless you come across a sweet deal). Or you can save up the $$$ and then go buy it all. You can get H1 wheels and military 37" H1 tires for cheap from militaryoffroadtires.net.

Re: Opinions on tons swap?

Like everybody else said...get all the parts & then swap it. That way you can still drive it in the mean time.
