Door Hinge replacement 99 Silverado

Anyone have good instructions or tips on replacing door hinges on a 99 Silverado? It looks like someone did a poor job of replacing the pins and as a result, the entire hinges are going to need to be changed.

I was under the impression they are not really replacable, at least to us normally folks. They are welded in place to the door.

Re: Door Hinge replacement 99 Silverado

We sell all the same products from Total Auto.
We have installed many of their hinge replacement kits. It helps to have a door lift though or at least a makeshift if a DIY

Impossible to reweld them back on. GM can't even do it. You have to bolt them back on. Send me email and I can send you the factory repair sheets

I can send you the Factory replacement instructions from Gm if you want. Give me you email and I can send the file. Easier than you may think

Re: Door Hinge replacement 99 Silverado

have you tried drilling out the holes and use an oversized bushing?

Thats more work than the factory fix plus i doubt if that would withstand the time. The Factory fix is the way to go on this. Its really pretty simple. you drill out the holes. fish a knurled bolt up though the access hole in pillar. pull it through the oversize hole and bolt your hinge on. If their was an easier way we would do it.

Re: Door Hinge replacement 99 Silverado

Well, finished the top hinge. Not hard to install at all but, getting the old ones off is a PITA.

yeah. One of GM's better ideas. The a pillar actually flexes when you open the door if you watch. We have had to fix many of these good money maker for gm dealers

Re: Door Hinge replacement 99 Silverado

It's finally complete. I have to do a little adjustment (2X4 to the door) but, it is a lot better than it was. If anyone is trying this, I would strongly recommend an air chisel.

Thanks to everyone for the help.
