The wtf where is my truck moment

So, I recently got this 57 big window rat rod kinf of truck, it wasnt running too good due to a timing issue, today I set the timing and it runs very good now, how ever I noticed it likes to jump out of park and into reverse on its own, so I put it in park go inside for 5 mins when I come out the door and!!!!!!!!!!

Unhappy Re: The wtf where is my truck moment

I think it depends on how you hold the phone camera taking a pic. Anything other than upright with right thumb on shutter button yields problems Found out the hard way, Speaking of hard way i know EXACTLY how you feel. My parking brake on my Kubota RTV 900 gave way and my beloved 15K custom mule rolled 300' down a wooded 30% grade and it rolled over over least 4 times. At least you seem to have been spared the sounds of the crash. I was not.

Re: The wtf where is my truck moment

there was a guy on the 60-66 side that moved from alaska to washington and drove his beloved truck the whole way, only to have it pop out of gear while parked in his new driveway and rolled down the mountain into some trees. sad end to that trip.

for the pictures, sometimes the motion sensor inside doesnt pick up the change in orientation especially when it is pointing down a little, I find it helps to look at the little camera icon to make sure the orientation is right before taking the picture.

Re: The wtf where is my truck moment

I'm with oldman. prolly a detent thing if the shifter is set up properly. maybe a previous owner tried to slip it into park before it was totally stopped or parked on a hill with no park brake and the weight of the truck was enough to round off the detent when he took it outta park. at any rate, it is prolly the culprit.
I know you don't wanna hear this right now, but, park brakes would help if used....
sorry man, coming from a guy who uses the park brake all the time....now.

Re: The wtf where is my truck moment

I had a truck do that once because the park brake cables were seized. The brake felt set so I walked into the house while it warmed up. Walked out to see it rolling down the driveway and bouncing over the stone wall.

Some phones take pictures that don't have all the info for a web browser to make them right side up. You need to rotate the picture after uploading it. Mine are upside down unless I rotate them. Here's yours after turning it:

Re: The wtf where is my truck moment

I'd call that a primered Beater rather than a rat rig but I am no fan of the R term.

If you stuck it in park and it popped out you might have linkage issues or the park pawl may be worn to the point it hops out Scrolling back up the page I see that several of us have the same thought.

I'd get the emergency/park brake working right and adjusted right as that should hold it a lot better. Mean while maybe pack along a couple of scotch blocks to throw in front of and behind the rear wheel to help make sure it doesn't roll off.

Re: The wtf where is my truck moment

How do you explain that to insurance?

I: "Who was driving car A"
SG: "Nobody"
I: "Who was driving the other car"
SG: "Nobody"
I: "No, the other car"
SG: "Nobody"

I wasn't planning on working on my parking brake for a while...you've got me rethinking that.

I went with a set of chocks made from 2, 4x4x16" wood chunks connected by a chain. Using them each time is a challenge.

Re: The wtf where is my truck moment

Thanks everyone for the replies,

The truck does not have a parking brake yet,(coming soon lol)

The damages is not too bad, 3 small scratches on the ford bumper, always bought chevys before, thats the 1st ford I buy,
My 14 year old : told you dad, no one in this house wanted a ford not even the old truck lol

I knew it was doing that and just got lazy, lesson learned,

And the 57 is too low

What are the details on the truck? Suspension, drivetrain? Now that the pecking order has been established, we need more pics of the Alpha Truck!!

it probably wasnt running, which means its probably a pawl or alignment problem as others have said.

Re: The wtf where is my truck moment

Here r the details as far as I know because I recently bought the truck,
Its a 57 chevy that was not originally a big rear window, the po had a big window cab that was rusted and well cut here cut tthere a few welds and there.
It has a 350 30 over with flat top pistons , solid loft cam, stailess rockers, and some other stuff, sounds very good, doesnt run as good cuz it needs the carb adjusted, on the suspension, it has a 77 camaro front clip , the po heated the springs , and on the back it has the camaro axle and the frame has been notch, it has adjustable coils, the gas tank has been relocated to the rear with a alum fuel cell. It has a leather seat. Looks to be something out of a tahoe ,or suburban, the windshield is new but still need to get the rear window, what I know is the sbc is gonna be replace with a ls base drive train soon, i did the swap on a 84 a few years back and really enjoyed it.
Plan to replace the heated coils with air bags or maybe just new coils, I havent made the decision yet, did i mentioned I bought 2 of this trucks at the same time from the previous owner?
