body lift

i want more lift and a body lift is the cheapest way to do it. i already have a 4 inch suspension lift. what things will i have to change for the body lift? all i can think of is the e-brake line, is there anything else? how can you correct the bumpers being so low? will the clutch linkage be fine? what about steering coloumn?
thanks, bob

well, depending on how much lift you want, but say 3. On my 68 I put a 3 inch and had some bad angles on the steering shaft, so I had it modified with a ujoint. It would still bolt up, but it really pulled on the rag joint. For the added length you will need to melt out the nylon roll pins in the steering shaft allowing it to slide down to meet up with the box. The clutch rod will have to be lengthend or you wont have any clutch pedal travel. For the brake lines you can carfuly uncoil the line from the master cylinder for the needed slack. You will probably have to cut off the lower portion of your fan housing for clearence to. If your running a automatic, yor linkages will have to be readjusted. I had to cut the transfercase lever hole about a inch back, or It wouldnt go into 4 lo. Thats about all I can remember doing off hand. On a side note, after all that work I took the body biscuts out after 3 months. I hated the extra body roll I got from it. For a cheap but better lift, I would consider getting a pair of front shackles made up about 2 inches longer then stock for 1 inch lift. and adding a add a leaf for the rear or a block. You may want to watch out for any wires, E brake cables etc. that may get pulled out when your jacking the body up. Good luck

Good idea

to lube the threads on all the bolts a few days before you do this. May even think about new bolts and using a torch if they are rusted pretty good.

New bolts came with my kit. If your lifting it the front cab bolts need to come out. They are spot welded in. At least mine were. A cut-off wheel did the trick there.
