Re: 5-speed for 69 C10?

If you don't have too much power and want to use a T5 out of a S10 you might want to make sure the one you get takes a mechanical speedo cable. You can google and find out the year mechanical speedos ended but I think it was 1988.

Also check the gear ratios. In some of the 4 cyl T5s the overdrive is pretty small and probably not worth it.

Really good T5 swap post here:

Info on T5 gear ratios here:

Re: 5-speed for 69 C10?

I mated a mid-'80s Camaro T5 with an S-10 tailshaft before installing it behind the stock 307 in my '68.

Full story here

Here's the story of the tailshaft swap necessary to get the shifter in the right place.

I would not hesitate to put a T5 behind an early smallblock, especially in our trucks. Just don't drive it like an idiot and you should be good to go; I loved my setup.

If you decide to go with a Tremec, check out American Powertrain. They have kits and all the stuff you'll need and are very helpful.

Hope this helps!

Re: 5-speed for 69 C10?

Ba71, I,m just starting a project where I,m putting a 70 body on a 82 4x4 frame, the ruck came converted to a nv4500 which is the main reason i bought it.The trans swap was done by an owner of a trans shop a few years prior, I don,t know what was involved but I,ll have the body off soon and can figure it out. It also has a non-hydraulic clutch which surprised me.

I'm pretty sure it's late 80's to early 90's s10 trans. I have a 72c10 and just purchased the tko 600 brand new. I've been told it's a pretty simple swap and having the rear motor mounts between bell hosing and motor are very beneficial to compensate the weight of the motor. I should be reviving my trans within a week or so if you like I'll keep you posted on the swap.

Search for the NV4500 swap. Also look up "Polar Bear" (I think that is his tag) He did an NV4500 swap in a square body, lots of good info there even though it was behind a 8.1liter. The correct NP205 input was the most valuable to me, he tried two different configurations in his write-up. Good reading anyway....

You will need to add a rear crossmember with whatever modern manual transmission you use

Re: 5-speed for 69 C10?

I know this thread is like 8 years old minimum, but I had the same question.

My buddy discovered that several guys are running AR5 tranmissions, (Colorado/Canyon) on LS swaps, and getting like 7-800 HP out of them before they pop.

FABbot make a swap kit that uses the 4L60E bell housing.

I've got a line on one of the tranmissions. I'll do a build thread when I start the project. You'll just have to have patience, cause I'm slower than mollassis.

It doesn't look like there is a ton of info out there right now. I've been told tail-mount and drive-shaft are all the same as a 4L60.

Stay-tuned...

Re: 5-speed for 69 C10?

I'm interested for my '67 project. All along it's been about period correct hot truck vibe including an M22, but I'm considering it's end use more for travelling than a local cruiser lately.
