gas tank replacement

I just bought a 1985 K30 with factory dual tanks and they both need replaced, I'm guessing they're the 16 gallon ones. Will 20 gallon tanks fit without mods, if so can I use the same sending units? Thanks!

Re: gas tank replacement

k30 is long bed only factory so 20 gal is factory . tanks are same left/right so no need to get specific left/right . sending units tho are left AND right . senders are also same for tank size . just the side of truck as i said .

spectra premium is o.e.m brand and basically best aftermarket quality . rockauto / autozone / other parts places all have them .

Re: gas tank replacement

When you buy new tanks, measure the filler hole.
There are at least 2 different sizes.
Make sure the new tanks are the same size as your old tanks.

Re: gas tank replacement

The filler hose diameter is year dependent. Don't remember what the split year is... 1985 is well past the split so your supplier should know.

Re: gas tank replacement

My tanks measured at 1 5/8, the pass is about to come off on it's own! Luckily the seller did throw in new GM braces. I'll post pictures of the new tanks install next month.
