Yes, that is exactly what you need for the style of water pump you have.

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

Thanks for the confirmation Captain. Thank you for your help as well AndyH. I think I'm going to check a couple junk yards this weekend, and see what I can come up with. I've seen the correct brackets on ebay too, but they are usually kinda proud of them.

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

Do you have excess to a welder or metal fab? Also get a early pump that has a key-way for the pulley instead of a press on one. do you have headers? I can fab up a bracket that was cut off if you don't have the means. I got your add so will send if you want what i have. will send some pulley's for a key way also. never will use them.

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

Yes sir, I'll take anything you are willing to send me. Thanks! And yeah I don't have super duper fab skills, but I do have a welder and can surely fashion whatever else I need to on that cut piece. I do appreciate your offer. I do have headers too, so that corner bracket wouldn't have been completely right in stock format anyhow.

What a great gesture.
Supplying parts and an offer for fabracation, doesn't get any better than that.

Rust-o
parts are on their way. there is a tab i put in the box that you can cut down and weld it to the cut off piece? Also threw in to pulleys one single and a double. good luck.

Awesome, that sounds great! I will be sure to return the favor for the next guy in need. Thanks again!

I'm hoping to find a new pump this weekend, and get everything put back together if it's not 100 degrees.

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

for the bolt on pulley's you need one from a 74 or earlier c-10. go to rockauto.com and ck out the pics for power steering pumps. good prices also. Do you have a steering box?

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

Yeah I've got the original steering gear box and crazy hydraulic ram setup. I may change it out to a modern integral style box one of these years, but I'd just like to get mine put back together as-is for now. I like the bolt-on pulley idea. I'll look into that.

I love rockauto, and need to place another order for plugs and wires and stuff anyway. I may have to get a pump from a local parts place though, so I can make sure the new one will accept my pressure hose, or at least the threaded adapter/valve/fitting/whatever-it-is that I unscrewed from the old pump. I have looked at a bunch of pics lately, but haven't seen any pumps that have a male fitting sticking out of the back like mine does (pictured earlier in this thread). Not sure if I am looking in the long year/model range, or if the fitting on mine was meant for something completely different.

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

I believe that, that male style of pressure fitting is specific to the original style of power assist used on these trucks as well as the Corvette's. The pump that you currently have, is not an original style pump, so that fitting was transferred to that pump from the original pump. I have yet to run across a saginaw power steering pump that didn't have the same pressure port/valve size and threads. If you were to get a '74 and earlier pump as 61K10 suggested, that fitting will certainly fit.

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

Good deal, I was hoping the threads on the pumps are most all the same. I didn't know if they switched to metric at some point, and/or if some weren't removable. It sounds like I may be in luck though.

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

Even the pumps with the Metric with O-ring hose fittings, that pressure valve is interchangeable with the earlier pumps.

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

Hey guys, I'm back. I've finally got all my parts painted and ready to reinstall (no pics at the moment, I'm at work), but I've got a question. I found the pic below on google and scribbled some captions on it. When I go to install this "cradle" piece of the bracket there is a gap about 1/4" or so wide between the steering pump and the hole with the red arrow pointing toward it. I thought at first maybe it's supposed to have a stud or something other than a bolt in it, but that doesn't look right either.

Does anybody know what is supposed to fill the gap between the bracket and pump? Is there some kind of spacer or something that belongs between them? Should I put a few washers in there? Am I completely overthinking this?

Also, on a sorta unrelated note, do you guys use washers on the bolts attaching these accessory brackets (including alternator, etc.)? Or lock washers?

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

Looks like you do need a spacer huh?
I ALWAYS use washers on fasteners, but be advised use either a lock washer OR a flat washer. It is a proven fact that a lock washer against a flat washer is USELESS in retaining fasteners. And YES, I know some manufacturers still use this combo but why I don't know. Also, always use a GRADE 8 flat washer, it should be gold in color. Looks like your pulleys are gonna line up good also!

Re: Power steering pump bracket id and questions

I don't think we are talking about the same thing. Well, that or I don't understand what you mean. Check out the pics attached. The bolt I'm pointing to is the one with the gap between the pump face and the bracket. I tried to get a good shot of the gap as well from above. It looks like maybe there's supposed to be a spacer or something in there. Any ideas?
