6.2 squarebody banks info!!

Okay, out of complete curiosity. I have a 1982 c10 with a banks kit on it. There’s a one inch piece of what seems to be radiator hose material that comes out from underneath what seems to be the “oil valve” round 3 inch cylinder that sits next to the oil fill cap. I put an oil breather on this piece of 1 inch hose, and haven’t had an issue till this week. It all of a sudden began slowly puking oil out of it. And help on what the heck it is would be awesome!! I’ll try an add a photo of what I’m talking about. The breather sits next to the turbo currently.

Is it supposed to have oil coming out of it? And where is it actually meant to route to?

Diesels have a LOT of blowby. They will pressurize the crankcase and start pushing oil out everywhere. Since venting them out is bad for the air, and covers everything in oil, they need the equivalent of a PCV valve. Unfortunately they don't make much vacuum. The solution is the CDR, which regulates crankcase pressure to manage the blowby and oil vapors. Hook it up correctly. It may help if you flush it out with some gas.

Suggested reading http://www.dieselhub.com/maintenance...cdr-valve.html Note this is factory 6.5 turbo set up, but the Banks (aftermarket) is very similar.

Did you take out the original air filter box and put on the red filter? I can't see the pictures very well on my phone, but do remember the original cdr line was swapped from the intake manifold to the air filter box. Since the manifold is now presssurized, it need to be moved to where it has a slight vacuum.

I've got an 84 that had a Banks put on it before delivery in Nov 1983. If I can get out of bed and go outside, I will get a picture (I just got home last night from emergency surgery Saturday)

Re: 6.2 squarebody banks info!!

Yes, the red air filter is actually an Oriellys special, that’s been swapped with a bigger version of it now. I bought the motor off a gentleman that was gonna swap it into his 96 c3500. He actually built the bottom end, and it has 6.5 heads on it. In the process of moving it from his other shop he lost the factory air box. So in saying that, to correctly route that line, would I have to weld a fitting onto the air intake tubing? I’m actually doing away with that cheap piece of 90 bend chrome the filter hooks up to, and making a piece of tubing that runs up on top of the passenger inner fender. Thanks for all the replies guys. This is all a learning experience for me, and I hadn’t even heard of the 6.2 till I bought this truck.

Yes it needs to connect somewhere on cold side pre turbo (somewhere on the air filter or tube from air filter to turbo)

You may want to download and save this as it has lots of good information
