Power tour 2017

Can we start a list of who is going and at what point you plan on attending?
I am hoping to start in Newton to Davenport and maybe Champaign. I would like to go all the way to Kansas City but not sure yet.

If you're going to do it, go the whole way. I've done 3. I started the route in 2014 and ended on day 3. In 2015 & 16 I ran the entire route in a 65 Mustang. By the time I drove there and back, it was around 3,500 miles each time. It's a different experience when you run the entire week and I think the first day is the funnest. Get there early and you have the entire day to check out the vendors and all the cool cars and there's usually autocross on the first day as well. After that first day, the vendors are exactly the same every day, and you'll probably be tired after driving that day when you get to the venue, so you can skip that crap all the rest of the week. I usually pick one nice day each tour, set up camp in my chair under shade and watch all the cars enter/leave the main gate.

I can't make it this year, just not enough vacation time with what we had planned this year. I'm hoping to install my new crate engine and 5 speed in the C10 this fall/winter, I'd love to take the C10 next year.

Re: Power tour 2017

My problem is I leave for a 7 day vacation on the 14th. So for me to take off on the 12th and 13th is pushing it. I have wanted to do this since I first attended as a visitor 4 years ago but was never complete enough until now to join in. Auto cross is the first day in Newton and the speedway. I would be interested in the dyno too. I have to be pushing at least 250 hp to the rear wheel. Lol, better not get my hopes up.

Thanks for the tips on the Power Tour. I plan to take my truck and do the long haul in 2019. I am expectiing to drive at least 7/800 miles to the start and that much or more on the way home. The Power Tour thing is a" Bucket List" item for me and I want to get it done as I will turn 70 in May 2019 about 2 weeks before the Power Tour begins. If anyone has some insights please post em up because there is nothing like passed along experience to make things easier for the newbies.

It's not a super active place, but this is by far the best forum dedicated to the power tour. If you do a search for first timer's advice there's a lot of good stuff on here:

Re: Power tour 2017

I plan on going to KC, then to Newton, and maybe Davenport. My brother is taking my 72, and I'm taking a 95 F350 since I didn't get my 40 Ford done. (It still won't be done in June)

Re: Power tour 2017

We are heading out in my 68 Tuesday morning from the Oregon Coast towards KC for Power Tour. Isn't there usually a group that heads out on I90 from Seattle together? We are heading up to 90 so we can hit Mt Rushmore on the way.

Re: Power tour 2017

i worked the last 2 " power tours " here in iowa ! lots of vehicles -some nice -some not so ??? we parked cars at "newton" -seems like everybody wanted to "power park" on the end of the rows ?? finally got tired of guys not wanting to just pull up & park ! so told them after we got further down the rows parking - they could move where ever they wanted _ they did ! our club was supposed to work 2-3 hours BUT ended up closer to 6-7 hrs for some of them! what a long strung out day w/ no breaks -might not do that again ???? anyway did see all types & yrs of cars -lots of nerdie -vettes-firebirds & Ls type of stuff

Pay day tomorrow and will start segregating some money each payday into a special account for the next 20 months to go on the 2019 Power Tour.

Re: Power tour 2017

We rolled in around in around 3 pm. We were parked out by the Dyno test. It looked pretty organized on parking so I have to say good job and thanks. We enjoyed the cruise and stayed around 65 most of the way. The parking was really easy at Newton, When we got back to Davenport it sucked. They guys I was with started over heating just trying to get in the fairgrounds and we spent 1 1/2 hours across the street at O'Reilly's. Over all it was one the best times I have had doing car stuff. I was proud of my old truck. Made it from Camanche Iowa to KC, Newton and back to Davenport with no problems. I cant wait till it gets close again I will defiantly be on it again.

Re: Power tour 2017

I looked for your truck in Newton but we left at around 3 or so. My daughter was with me and she had enough of the heat. She sure loved seeing all the cool rides though. I sure wished they'd announce the routes sooner than they do.

Thanks, it was after 3 when we came in. We stopped a couple of times to watch the cars go by and for lunch. Every gas station was a car show and we just took our time and enjoyed it. Looks like they might going east this year. I will so be on it again. I would like to meet more people from this board.

Yes. They released the dates last week here. Im excited because it cuts right through my neck of the woods. I probably won't participate on the tour but will definitely hit up one of the stops.

Re: Power tour 2017

Wow! I'm surprised they announced it so soon. Last year it seems like they waited until 3 months before it happened.

My rat truck likely won't be roadworthy for that. I have been on parts of it with my other car though.

People are already reserving hotel rooms at the near the Corvette Museum. I found this on the Hot Rod Power Tour web site. I will be making my reservations soon. This has been on my bucket list for a while.

Re: Power tour 2017

I've been getting my truck ready as I was planning on doing the 2019 Power Truck, and its a bucket list item and will be just afteer my 70th birthday. I was hoping it would swing westward this year and end somewhere in the midwest so in 2019 I'd have maybe a 800/1000 mile drive to the start of the tour. With it ending in Concord NC in 2018 that is where it will start from in 2019 and that is 2000 miles from me, so I will probably pass for 2019.
