Post CONSOLE ????

Does anyone have a middle section for a 72 console,I got a lid and a bottom section. My middle section has several holes in it from some dope smoking old man bolting his radio to it.Next this console was painted blue but origionally black, the blue paint is cracked and brittle what would be the best way to get the blue paint off with? (brake fluid, minneral spirts or what)

Why not buy a new one from Classic Industries or anywhere else for that matter. I bought on off of ebay and when I received it I found that it had a lot of holes as well. I think they were for a CB mount or something. What I probably will do is buy a one from Classic Industries and transfer the chrome trim and bowtie emblem to the new one. Then save the other one for a future project and just cover it in the material I use.

As far as removing paint from plastc. You have to be carefull that what you use isn't strong enough to disolve the console. Start with a good soaking overnight in soap and water. Maybe powdered dishwasher soap. That stuff can be strong. Work up from there. You might want to try citrus paint removers from the paint department. Test it on the bottom to see if it causes a problem.

All the factory consoles I have seen are black and painted if they were any other color. Those consoles are not plastic, the material is more like fiberglass and I bet you could use a fiberglass repair kit to fix holes but it would be hard to match the grain. I bought a tan one off ebay and blasted the paint off with glass beads, just held the nozzle about 18 inches away.
