Active Fuel Management came to be in 2007 as far as I can tell.

Re: Displacment on demand?

what kind of real mileage are the non-DOD 5.3 getting in the SUVs? Wife is convinced we need a Town&Country and I want another SUV. T&C are advertising 17-24 mpg. can I get close in a non-DOD?

Re: Displacment on demand?

Well, my 2004 non-Active Fuel Management Hoe routinely gets around 19/20 on the highway with the best trip being 23 headed south to Albuquerque last year at our high speed limit on I-25 (75 MPH). My 8.1L and 6.0L Silverados are terrible. Like 10 to 12 on a good day going down hill with a 75 MPH tail wind.

I don’t have any firsthand experience with an Active Fuel Management equipped truck or SUVs but I have a friend in Ohio that his wife is an F & I manager at a GM dealer and drives a 2007 Hoe as a demo. He mentioned it has averages around 23 to 24 on the highway.

Active Fuel Management, like anything else, depends on how you drive it will depend on the mileage it delivers. You probably could come close to the mileage with a non-AFM rig with 3:73 gears if you drive it nicely.

I will say the Chrysler Town and Country minivans are nice rides though. They don't do much for the mojo but still nice vehicles.

Re: Displacment on demand?

Ouch, that does hurt. I drive HHR’s often as I travel and rent a lot of cars. The SS with the turbo make a cool car even sweeter. I went with my dad last Friday to look at a new Silver 2009 HHR SS he is hoping to pick up within the next few days. It just seems like a funny sight to see a 64 year old guy cruising an HHR SS for some reason.

Why are you offing your HHR? Is it too small for the family?

I really like HHRs

Good luck with your Suburban/Tahoe hunt..

Re: Displacment on demand?

Expecting our 4th kid in 3 weeks. 3 kids fit OK but thats it. I LOVE the car. It pulls hard, stops on a dime and pulls a .87g on skid pad. Suspension was tuned in Nurmberg GR along with Corvette and Cad CTS-V. Most people dont know about them and it is great to burn "tuner cars". Awesome sleeper!!! Its all black with blk/slv interior and will be dearly missed.

PS: Im 41 and look old to the kids with the RX-8s and Eclipses
