Opinions needed - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well, i am tring decide what to do about paint on my truck. The cab needs to be replaced because of alot of windshield frame rot, so it will be needing a paint job if i want it to be one color. The truck is Ochre right now, and the paint is OK in quality, but i have found a big patch of bondo (not sure how thick) on one of the bedsides, and i want to sand it down to see what i am dealing with. Anyway, i am torn between keeping it the original ochre color (which i like OK) or painting it a dark metallic green color (kind of like hunter green). If i paint it green, the side trim will come off, but the Custom/10 and 8/350 emblems will stay. So, should i keep it original, or put a different color on it?

In my opinion it kinda makes a difference what the rest of the truck looks like. Has it been hacked up, how is the quality of the accesories, that kinda stuff you know. Would it be a good candidate for restoration versus customization.

It hasn't really been hacked up too bad. The sheet metal is all original (including the rusty rockers), but since i have to replace the cab, i figured it would be easy to go ahead and change the color then. I really dont want to make a full custom out of it or anything, just a nice truck to drive on the street. This isn't really a "restoration", it is more of a fix-up.

My opinion on this subject is that YOU are the one that will be driving the truck, so you should go with the color that you like. You have a bunch of work ahead of you, and you'll appreciate the final outcome a lot more if you do the work to please yourself. It will be worth it in the end. Good luck on the project.
