Spids
when did spids stop being used on GM pickups, and were they always on the glove compartment door in later years?

Re: Spids
My 93 GMC and my 2005 GMC both have one on the glove box door.

Re: Spids
There were never stopped.
We still use SPID labels on cars today (the Chevy Volt has a SPID label inside a compartment in the quarter panel, for example). There was a series of years in the '73 -80 ish timeframe when they were placed on the front fender inner before going back to the glovebox. K

Re: Spids
I have the spidfrom my 82 silverado suburban 1/2 ton 6.2 diesel. It got parted out a few years ago. It still listed the codes and actual descriptions. I noticed my brothers 94 caprice 9c1 cop car has one on the trunk lid but it just has codes no descriptions. My 2001 c2500hd duramax has the same type on inside of gloveobox door codes but ni description.
My question would be when did gm go to codes only no descriptions? 1988 is my guess |

a) There are several RPO decoders on the web and on this site. Go to the home page and start searching - b) Here's a link to the free generic information packet from the GM Heritage Center archive: http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...tion-kits.html Find Chevy trucks and click on the one for the desired model year. This will show you all the generic options and content that were available for that particular model year. Depending on how desperate you are, you can also send them $50 and your VIN and they will send you the vehicle invoice specific to your truck, including your original options and pricing. Invoice: http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/?page=3 c) Post any specific questions here. I can probably answer most of them off the top of my head. K

Re: Spids
Some model Chevy trucks had a label on the left inner fender Seems like it was the early to mid 80's models. Todays trucks and one from the model years of 1988 have what we call spids for the 67-72 trucks is called a RPO label by the General for now. All of the stuff on the truck is on the rpo label it is basicly a blueprint of the truck/car it starts at the front of the line with a RPO sheet and the label and it goes the the line with the sheet and the label and all of the codes tell the computer and workers what to put on much as it did back in the day.
