GM OE West Coast Mirrors........Location on doors

I know some of you have trucks with OE West Coast Jr. Mirrors(Like ones on a Peterbilt or Kenworth, only smaller). Could anyone possibly measure the location on both doors as it came from GM new(Just from the top corner of the door to the tube for the mirror would be fine)? I have a bunch of trucks with them on, but none came factory with them, and want them in the correct spot on the '72 K-20 I am working on. I'd really appreciate it.

I have a set on my 1-ton GMC, although it originally came with tri-mounted mirrors.............And althought they work ok for me, they just don't seem like they are in the right spot.

Re: GM OE West Coast Mirrors........Location on doors

I'm pretty sure mine had the west coast option. There is an extra set of holes on the doors where someone changed it. I'll check the glovebox in the morning to double check, and measure it if you want. Please lt me know, cause I have the truck on craigs list for $1200 and have a few people coming to look tommorow. I really wanted to post it here first but can't untill i get my membership.

I thought the Jr.west coast mirrors were a dealer installed option. If so there is probably not a factory location.Just my thought and if I'm wrong it wouldn't be the first time.

On my 68 GMC, the top bracket is as far forward as possible, it puts the center about 1.5" from the top front; that puts the bottom at 16.5" fromthe front. It came from the dealer like this as far as I know. Hope this helps.

Re: GM OE West Coast Mirrors........Location on doors

GMCMAX, thanks for the picture...........Nice to know where they are supposed to be. I didn't think they were mounted that far ahead.

I mounted mine earlier in the week. I found a patched hole in the door(Bondo'ed shut) so I drilled it out and used that for location, and mounted the passengers side the same distance back. From max's picture that are back a tad much, but my brother helped me and we found we had enough adjustment that I really like them where they are at, we kept them close to the door this way too.

Thanks guys
TP

Re: GM OE West Coast Mirrors........Location on doors

Old thread, but '68 was the last model year to come with this style of west coast mirror. There is no correct location for these mirrors on a '72. They were replaced with below eye line types in '69. The larger west coast mirrors seen more commonly on C 30's C50's C 60's etc. continued to be available throught the '67-'72 era.
