The wiring in the instrument panel connector is different, between those years.

This is what I have saved in my notes but I no longer have working links to where it was posted. From this you can figure out the swap both ways.

"Move B15 to B11, Move A10 to A9, move A11 to A10." That's for putting a '91 cluster into a '90 (same as 88-89)

Did you give the model, year, engine, fuel system type, and transmission information?
If it is modified from what came stock from the factory, let us know that too.

Is the 88-90 cluster identifiable from the 91 gauge cluster? My 89 speedo and oil pressure gauge act up erratically and I give it the "Fonzie whack" to get it going again. I bought a gauge cluster from Ebay but haven't swapped it out yet so I'm not sure of the particular year it belongs to.

(On the Happy Days TV show Fonzie would hit the jukebox to get the music playing; just in case you didn't know....)

They are wired differently so there is an identifiable difference, but I can't just pick one up and identify what year it fits.

Connection problems where the instrument panel plugs onto the dash are common on these panels. Do not aggressively clean the connection or it may give you more problems. Some people say one use a pencil eraser to clean the panel contacts. My best luck with cleaning poor connections is to use very fine polishing paper and then very lightly grease them tuner cleaner lube.

I started building a list of numbers but don't have many. Here is what I saved:
GM truck instrument panel numbers
Part Number: 16155095 – 1991 K1500 tach cluster

Part#16124865

92,93,94 Chevy GMC Pickup, 11414?

Instrument 88-90 Interchange Part Number: 257-01332

91 Chevy Pickup 1500 2500 Gas Manufacturer Part Number: #QKF16121005
Interchange Part Number: 257-01591 *Note: 1991 Only! No tach

1992 No Tach 16129547 & with tach 1993 diesel

16140288. Not moonie

92 93 CHEVY 1500 PICKUP INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SPEEDOMETER 16140015
Interchange Part Number: 257-01745 1993 1500 pickup 80893

1994 Chevy Chevrolet GMC 1500 Pickup no tach
Manufacturer Part Number: ID #16193635 QAA
Interchange Part Number: 257-01749

Re: 91 chevy wiring

It looks like about a year ago I had my gauge cluster out to try and correct some problems. I resoldered the path of the oil pressure gauge and speedo and thought I had it. On circuit boards like this you can sometimes see micro-opens with something like a jeweler's loupe. I thought I had mine fixed but it still has an intermittent problem; more so during colder weather. When it's warm the gauges react more stable. I haven't gotten back to it and I give it the "Fonzie whack" like I stated before when it acts up.

Re: 91 chevy wiring

The "sweep" gauges have a different connector than the "moonies". It's an important point to make. I found out the hard way since it wasn't mentioned. It's harder to get these parts now.
