Re: 1931 Model A

Did he make commercial equipment for a living? Seriously, I have a friend who is a fabricator for Donut Corporation of America and he makes custom street rod parts

Re: 1931 Model A

nope, he was a mechanic at Chef Boyardee for 47 years. But, I believe he can make anything he wants to. Chef Boyardee - Proper name is Boiardi, but changed for the Americans to pronounce it correctly. The Chef himself actually lived in our town (Milton, PA). My 15 year old's friend lives in the old Boiardi Mansion. It's a quick Wikipedia read if you get bored.

I hope the grandkids part is at least 10 years down the road.

I will read that this evening. I love stuff like this. I get a thought about something, Google, then Wiki. It's a pleasure to learn.

Yep, sounds like the same type of guy as my friend, as a master with stainless... and of course steel. Food industry equipment can be one-off, and it's all specialized purpose built, and stainless. Also a gotta have it now situation in your friend's work. Gives someone doing that type of work the most rounded and varied experience to be fabricators of car/truck stuff.

Re: 1931 Model A

My Dad has two brothers, both are into cars. Dad is not, but, ask him to build something for one and he is 100% engaged until it's done. My Flag pole is a 28' 4" stainless steel pipe with a nice round ball on top. Deer feeders, truck hitch deer haulers, chicken coop window screens, etc. When I was 20 and started working in my first power plant my lunch box handle broke. I still lived at home and asked dad if he could fix. The next day I carried my repaired lunch box with a stainless steel handle to work - polished and rounded to perfection. The guys were all jealous!

Re: 1931 Model A

Nothing against taking it back to original ,,but I sure like that color that is on it now.. in fact a guy years ago in my area painted his that exact color and that;s when I first really too k a like to it.

Great car you have there, if was ever to want a old model A ,,that soft top would be what I would go after.

Re: 1931 Model A

Congrats. Still loving the color and the total look. Great looking '31 model A for an afternoon putt to the local ice cream shop. Mom & Dad up front and the kids in the "padded trunk/rumble seat"

My thoughts: Don't change a thing, just enjoy the ride with the family history and the simpler time it brings to mind.

Smile Re: 1931 Model A

My question would be:
What's it like to drive one of those when in original form and drivetrain?

I've never driven a vehicle older than a 1950's...so I'm not up on how good or bad they are to drive and use.

This would possibly play a part for me in owning this type of vehicle. If it is difficult to drive and temperamental and can only be trusted for 5 miles worth of sunny travel...then I would consider changing the game a bit.

Regardless, it appears to be a great looking example!

All good

that's my plan now. I wanted to change the color, but now I love it. Especially since my Uncle gave me a picture of my Great Uncle in the drivers seat. It was about a shade lighter back then. I will see if I can scan the picture and post it. Its poor quality, but neat old picture.

I have driven it 30 miles to work. Very reliable so far, you just got to leave a little (lot) bit earlier. It's fun to drive, but down shifting doesn't happen. I haven't once down shifted without grinding. My Uncle said its always been that way. So coast to the stop sign and then grab first. Going up to second is smooth and into third is smooth if you hit it just right or double clutch.
